SAINT LEO, Fla.- The No. 8 West Florida Men's Tennis Team dropped a heartbreaker 4-3 to No. 3 Saint Leo on Friday morning for their first match of the weekend. The Argos fall to 16-5 while the Lions improve to 16-3.

To start the match, the Argonauts had a lot of momentum, winning two of the three doubles matches to secure the lone point over the Lions.

Salvador Bandeira and teammate Lluis Miralles Miro won the first point 6-1 against the Lions from the No. 2 position. The next point would come from Facundo Bermejo and Tomas Descarrega, who won their match 6-4 as the No. 1 pair, defeating the No. 5 pair in the nation from Saint Leo. Pedro Cordeiro and Bernardo Costa came up just short in their match as the No. 3 pair, falling 4-6.

In singles, the Argonauts couldn't continue the momentum from doubles, dropping four of the six singles matches.

From the top of the lineup, Bermejo would claim the first point for the Argos from the No. 2 positions, winning his match 6-3, 6-3 against the 51st player from Saint Leo. Juan Cabrera couldn't get the victory over Bruno Faletto, who comes into this match as the No. 4 player in the nation. Cabrera dropped his match 4-6, 1-6 from the No. 1 position.

Costa put up quite a fight against the Lions, losing the first set 3-6, winning the second 6-4, but falling short in the tiebreaker 4-6 from the No. 3 position against the 24th player in the country.

In the bottom half of the lineup, Cordeiro played a great match from the No. 6 position, winning the match in a tiebreaker 6-4, 6-7, 10-8.

Sebastian Sotelo couldn't continue defeat his opponent, dropping the match 1-6 ,1-6 from the No. 5 position. Bandeira put up a strong fight, but fell just short from the No. 3 position 6-7, 6-7.

The Argonauts have a few more matches this weekend before heading into postseason play.

"We are disappointed to say the least. We actually out played them for pretty much most of the match, but just couldn't finish when we had to. The positive thing is that it showed we are good enough to beat any team in the nation. We just have to convert on our chances," said head coach Derrick Racine.

West Florida will be back in action to play Florida Southern on Saturday in Lakeland, Fla. The first set will be at 10 AM (ET). On Sunday, the Argos will take on Hawaii Pacific at 10 AM (ET) in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
