Women's Tennis Drops Match to No. 8 Hawaii Pacific in Regular Season Finale

The Argos are now 13-10

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.- It was a tough day for the No. 27 West Florida Women's Tennis Team as they fall to No. 8 Hawaii Pacific 4-0 on Sunday morning to finish out their road trip. The Argonauts are now 13-10 heading into postseason play. The Sharks improve to 13-7 on the season.

West Florida just couldn't find the momentum in doubles play, dropping two doubles matches with the other going unfinished due to Hawaii Pacific winning the lone point.

Karolina Silwanowicz and Mayumi Saguchi were unable to get the first doubles point, falling 6-0 to their opponent as the No. 2 pair.

Sara Yigin and her partner Guiliana Sacco dropped their match to the 30th ranked doubles team in the nation 6-1 from the No. 1 position. Irene Recuenco and Raissa Wagner's match went unfinished from the No. 3 position due to the Sharks securing the lone point.

The Argonauts came out on the wrong end in singles against the top-ranked Sharks. Recuenco finished her match first, dropping a close match 6-3, 5-7 from the No. 2 position. Zoe Yasan was unable to get the point from the No. 6 position, falling 6-1, 6-3 to her opponent. Raissa Wagner's match went retired as she was down 6-3, 5-0 from the No. 5 position.

Yigin, Saguchi, and Silwanowicz's match all went unfinished due to the Sharks clinching the victory.

"The girls also ran into a very good HPU team. These are the type of matches that win or lose prepare you for postseason play. Both teams are looking forward to a good week and a half of hard training prior to the championships," noted head coach Derrick Racine.

The Argos will have a few more weeks to prepare as they get ready for the Gulf South Conference Tournament from April 28-30 in Montgomery, Ala.
