Men's Tennis Improve to 6-0 in GSC Play After Taking Down Christian Brothers

The Argos have a perfect record at home so far this season

PENSACOLA, Fla.- It was another picture perfect day for the West Florida Men's Tennis Team as the Argonauts swept Christian Brothers 7-0 this afternoon to improve to 6-0 in GSC play and continue their perfect record at home winning their past ten matches.

As the No. 1 team in the Gulf South Conference rankings, the Argonauts kicked off the match, winning all three doubles matches to secure the lone point.

In doubles, Facundo Bermejo and Tomas Descarrega teamed up as the No. 1 pair, winning their match 6-2. Pedro Cordeiro and Bernardo Costa secured the next point from the No. 3 position, dominating their match 6-2. The last point would come from Lluis Miralles Miro and Salvador Bandiera, who swept their match 6-0 from the No. 2 position.

West Florida continued that momentum heading into singles play, sweeping the Bucs from all six positions.

From the top of the lineup, Bernardo Costa got things started in singles for the Argos, dominating his match 6-3, 6-2 from the No. 3 position. Tomas Descarrega won his match in two sets 6-2, 6-3 from the No. 2 position. As the No. 22 player in the country, Facundo Bermejo rounded it out for the Argos as he won his match 6-2, 6-4 from the No. 1 position.

From the bottom of the lineup, Sebastian Sotelo finished first, winning 6-1, 6-1 from the No. 4 position. Pedro Cordeiro picked up the next point from the No. 6 position, dominating his match 6-1, 6-1. Salvador Bandiera got the last point for the Argonauts to secure the victory over the Buccaneers.

This marks the tenth straight time the Argos have defeated Christian Brothers in program history.

"The men are doing great as they are undefeated in conference play. We have three more matches left and hopefully we can stay strong and finish tops in the GSC," noted Head Coach Derrick Racine.

West Florida will be back in action at home tomorrow to face Mississippi College for their second GSC match of the weekend.
