No. 11 West Florida Earns 5-2 Victory over Mississippi College

The Argos continue to be the No. 1 seed in the GSC

PENSACOLA, Fla.- On another great day of West Florida Men's Tennis at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex, the Argonauts picked up another victory taking down Mississippi College 5-2 on Sunday afternoon. This win moves the No. 11 Argonauts to 14-4 overall and 7-0 in conference play as the No. 1 seed in conference standings.

This win today moves West Florida to 10-0 all-time against the Choctaws and gives them great momentum heading into more GSC play next weekend.

In today's match, West Florida continued their success in doubles sweeping from all three positions to secure the lone point.

Facundo Bermejo and Tomas Descarrega started things off for the Argonauts in doubles winning 6-4 from the No. 1 position. This improves their record as a pair to 10-3. Bernardo Costa and Pedro Cordeiro secure the next point in doubles for the Argos to win their match 6-1 from the No. 3 position. The last point would come from Lluis Miralles Miro and Salvador Bandiera, who was victorious 6-2 from the No. 2 position.

Singles play saw West Florida continue that momentum winning four out of the six singles matches.

From the top of the lineup, Juan Cabrera won in two sets from the No. 1 position 6-4, 6-4. Bernardo Costa would end up dropping his match in a tiebreaker 5-7, 6-4, 0-10 from the No. 3 position. The next point would come from Descarrega from the No. 2 position, who won his match 6-4, 6-2.

From the bottom half of the lineup, Cordeiro and Miro won their matches from the No. 5 and No. 6 positions. Cordeiro dominated his match, winning 6-3, 6-3 from the No. 5 position. From the No. 6 position, Miro was victorious 6-2, 6-1 to secure the other point for the Argos. Bandeira came up just short from the No. 4 position, falling 6-7, 6-7.

With this win, the Argonauts improve to 11-0 at home this season with two more conference matches left in the season.

"In the men's match, we jumped on them right away in doubles and swept all 3 matches. The singles match got tight, but we were able to pull out 4 big singles wins to take the match 5-2. This keeps us at the top of the GSC standings with 2 matches left to play," noted head coach Derrick Racine.

The Argos will host Auburn Montgomery and Shorter next weekend for more Gulf South Conference play.
