Women's Tennis Drops Heartbreaker to AUM 4-3 in GSC Semifinals

The Argos finished the season 14-11 overall

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- It was a tough day for the No. 3 seed West Florida Women's Tennis Team as the Argos fell 4-3 to the No. 2 seed Auburn Montgomery on Friday afternoon. The Warhawks will advance to the Gulf South Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday against West Alabama.

To start the match, the Argonauts got off on the right foot winning two of the three doubles matches to claim the lone point.

Karolina Silwanowicz and her partner Mayumi Saguchi sealed the first point 6-4 as the No. 2 pair. Irene Recuenco and Raissa Wagner secured the next doubles point in an intense match 7-5 from the No. 3 position.

Sara Yigin and Giuliana Sacco were unable to win their match, falling 6-0 from the No. 1 position.

Heading into singles play, the Argonauts has the momentum winning from the No. 3 and No. 6.

Saguchi claimed the first point in two sets from the No. 3 position, winning her match 7-6, 3-6. Freshman Luiza Daud was victorious in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 from the No. 6 position.

Senior Recuenco wasn't able to secure the point in her match as she fell in the tiebreaker 6-3, 3-6, 0-6 from the No. 2 position. Silwanowicz dropped her match to Ana Villalvazo from the No. 4 position 6-0, 6-0. Wagner fell in her match 6-3, 6-2 from the No. 5 position.

Sara Yigin fell in an intense match winning the first set 7-6, dropping the second set 6-7, and ultimately falling 6-1 in a tiebreaker after a four-hour battle against Sofia Navarro from the No. 1 position.

It was a great season for West Florida as the Argos had a 14-11 season record and 8-2 conference record.
