PENSACOLA, Fla.- On another picture-perfect day from the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex, the West Florida Women's Tennis Team swept Shorter 7-0 on Senior Day. The Argonauts improve to 12-8 on the season and 8-2 in Gulf South Conference play.
In doubles, the Argonauts swept from all three positions to win the lone point, giving West Florida the momentum heading into singles play.
The seniors, Recuenco and Silwanowicz teamed up from the No. 2 position to win a tight match 7-6.
Raissa Wagner and
Sara Yigin dominated their doubles match as the No. 3 pair, winning 6-0.
Giuliana Sacco and
Mayumi Saguchi secured another point, being victorious 6-2 as the No. 1 pair.
In between doubles and singles play, the Argonauts recognized their seniors,
Karolina Silwanowicz and
Irene Recuenco, who have both played tremendous this season.
Heading into singles play, the Argonauts showed strong performance throughout the lineup to sweep the Hawks.
From the top of the lineup, Recuenco won her match 6-0, 6-2 from the No. 2 position to improve her win streak to twelve on the season. The next point would come from Silwanowicz, who won her match 6-4, 6-0 from the No. 3 position.
Yigin would close out the top of the lineup with a win in a close match 6-4, 7-5 from the No. 1 position.
From the bottom half of the lineup, Wagner dominated her match from the No. 4 position, winning 6-0, 6-1.
Luiza Daud defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0 from the No. 5 position to secure the next point for the Argonauts.
Zoe Yasan would secure the final point from the bottom of the lineup from the No. 6 position, winninger 6-2, 6-0.
The Argonauts will travel to face Saint Leo, Florida Southern, and Hawaii Pacific next weekend for their last regular season matches before postseason play.
