UWF Kicks Off 2022 Season in Georgia

First Game Will Begin Friday, Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. ET in Columbus, Ga.

Pensacola, Fla. — Kicking off the 2022 season, the University of West Florida women's soccer team will head on the road to take on Barry University and the Queens University of Charlotte. Friday, Aug. 26, the Argos will take on Barry at 5:00 p.m. ET followed by Queens on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 1:00 p.m. ET in Columbus, Georgia at Walden Soccer Complex.
 
The Argos are coming off a successful 14-3-3 2021 season that included an NCAA tournament appearance – advancing to the NCAA South Region final.
 
Returning for the top line is forward, Blair Cowan. Cowan ended the season with the second most goals in the Gulf South Conference with ten and led the team with six assists to total for 26 points. Strong talent offensively who received four goals apiece in the last season are Julia Comin and Brianna Pope who will be returning for the 2022 season. 
 
Scouting the Opponents
Barry Buccaneers
Barry University ended the 2021 season with a 7-6-3 record. The Buccaneers totaled for 271 shots with 26 finding the back of the net while holding their opponents to 19 goals. 
 
Heading into her second year with the Buccaneers is forward, Drew Dempsey. Taking 18 shots on goal, Dempsey tied for second most points within her team freshman year to conclude the season with four goals and two assists.  
 
The Buccaneers will kick off their first game of the season in a neutral site against the Argos Friday, Aug. 26. 
 
Queens University of Charlotte Royals
Losing in the second round of the 2021 NCAA DII Tournament, the Royals ended the season with a 16-5-1 record. The Royals received runner-up in the South Atlantic Conference and will start a new chapter as a Division I team in the ASUN Conference. 

In 2021, the Royals had 33 goals while holding their opponents to 12. Showing their strength in the offensive line, the Royals had 14.5 shots per game and a total of 151 shots on goal. Tough assets returning for the Royals is leading scorer Mia Manuel followed by Nia Gaither who combined for a total of 31 shots on goal with 11 finding the back of the net.
