11th-Ranked UWF Volleyball Hits The Road On First GSC Weekend

The Argonauts opened league play with a 3-0 win over Valdosta State on Tuesday

PENSACOLA, Fla.
- The #11 ranked West Florida Argos volleyball team currently hold a record of 9-3 with a 1-0 in Gulf South Conference play so far on the young season. The West Georgia Wolves come into the match with a 6-6 record and 0-1 in GSC play.

UWF comes into the match holding many of the top rankings in statistics across the GSC with 1st in team assists (529) and kills (561), 3rd in blocks per game (2.00), and 2nd in hitting percentage (.267).

The #11 Argos are led by a group of talented players that features many of the conference's top statistical leaders.

Leading the conference and team in assists per set (10.55) is Senior S Taylor Vaneekeren, averaging almost two assists more than the next closest player. Also leading the GSC and team in hitting percentage (.449) is Sophomore MH Jenna Zydlo. Sophomore RS Avery Rodgers is currently ranked 3rd in the GSC averaging 3.00 kills per set, and rounding out the attack is Graduate Student MH Camila Vazquez who ranks 4th in the GSC in hitting percentage (.362).

UWF-UWG SERIES HISTORY: The Argos hold the series record against the Wolves at 36-3 with a current win streak of 14 games. In that 14-game win streak the Argos have only managed to lose five total sets to the Wolves.

UWF-AUM SERIES HISTORY: UWF holds a record of 8-0 all-time against AUM with only dropping two sets out of twenty-six overall. 

ABOUT AUM: The Warhawks come into the match riding a five-game win streak with an impressive straight sets win over West Georgia their previous contest.
The Warhawks are led by freshman libero Kendall McCain who leads the GSC in kills per game 3.53, and total points with 182.5 with the 2nd closest being twenty points away. Also anchoring the Warhawks this season in Junior setter Amber Bretwisch, who ranks second in the Gulf South Conference in assists per game 8.69 only behind the Argos Senior Taylor Vaneekeren.
