PENSACOLA, Fla.- The West Florida Men's Soccer Team looks to host two Gulf South Conference matchups, Auburn Montgomery and Montevallo, over the weekend.
West Florida will face AUM on Friday, Sept. 30 for International Soccer Night and Montevallo on Sunday, Oct. 2 for Sunday Funday.
About UWF
The Argos enter these matchups with a 4-2-2 record on the season and 2-0-2 against GSC opponents.
As a squad, UWF has outshot their opponents with a margin of 113-56. Sophomore
Kainan Dos Santos leads the Argos in goals (4), points (9), and shots (29). Dos Santos leads the conference in shots with 29. Two of those goals came on the road this past weekend with one against Union (9/23) in the 42
nd minute from inside the box. The other was against Christian Brothers (9/25) off a penalty kick. This would be the only goal UWF would score against the Bucs, ending the game in a draw.
West Florida has limited their opponents to only five goals on the season with senior captain
Lucas Barankiewicz leading the Argo defense. Barankiewicz is a key asset to this backline as he has recorded 603 minutes and has started and played seven games.
In the GSC standings, the Argonauts sit at No. 6 as they have two ties and two wins in the conference. Montevallo and AUM are ranked first and second in the conference standings, so UWF will have to bring a combined effort if the Argos want to defeat these tough opponents.
Scouting Auburn Montgomery
The Warhawks are second in the GSC with a 3-1-1 conference record and 3-3-2 overall record before hitting the road to take on the Argos.
Forward Aristarchus Oluwatuyi is entering into his first season with the Warhawks. Oluwatuyi was recently named GSC Player of the Week after scoring a pair of goals in AUM's 3-2 win over Lee. The transfer from Lewis University leads the Warhawks in goals (4), points (8), and shots (13). Midfielder Renan Diniz had a successful weekend as he recorded two assists, and he tallied one goal against Lee.
AUM goalkeeper Alexander Kraus has quite the resume for the Warhawks as he ranks second in school history with 17 career shutouts, and he ranks fourth with 5,265 minutes in the net. The German native has recorded nine saves on the season and a save percentage of 0.429. He has tallied one shutout this season.
Matthew Thorne is entering into his fourth season as the head coach of the AUM Men's Soccer Team.
West Florida vs. AUM History
UWF took down the Warhawks in the GSC Tournament Semifinals last November in penalty kicks. Both teams ended up scoreless after regulation and double overtime.
Charlie Elliott was the fourth kicker for AUM to decide the outcome of the game. Elliott's shot went low right, and it was stopped by UWF goalkeeper
Jihad Gomes to advance the Argos to the GSC title game.
The overall series record is 4-1-1 and the Argos are 1-1 on their home field.

The Montevallo Men's Soccer Team is starting the 2022 campaign with an impressive start to the season. The Falcons are No. 10 in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll and No. 2 in the South Region rankings released on Tuesday.

Senior defender Mario Gratzel scored the final goal and his third career goal for the 3-0 win over Shorter on Friday, Sept. 23. Gratzel and the Falcon backline held the Hawks to only five shots.
Junior Edorta Cabieces Sanz has been very successful this season as he leads the team in goals (4), assists (3), points (11), and shots (20). In 2021, Sanz led the Falcons in scoring with 14 goals and he was named to the Second Team All-South Region team.
The Falcons have outshot their opponents 119-91 in 2022.
West Florida vs. Montevallo History
The overall series history between these two teams is 8-5-1. The last time the Argos faced the Falcons was last October. UWF lost the match 1-0 on the road as the only goal came from Jonathan Guadarrama late in the second half. Goalkeeper

st minute. The home record for the Argos against Montevallo is 5-2-1.
