PENSACOLA, Fla. - Riding a 6-game winning streak and winners of nine of their last 10, the UWF women's basketball team returns home this week for contests against Delta State on Thursday at 5:30 pm and Mississippi College on Saturday at 2 pm.
ABOUT UWF
* Saturday's win over Shorter was UWF's sixth-consecutive, its longest of the season and the longest since winning 10-straight near the start of last season.
* UWF leads the GSC in field goal percentage defense, holding teams to 36 percent shooting overall and is third in 3-point FG defense at 27.6 percent.
* UWF has outrebounded each of its opponent in the last 15 games and leads the GSC at 43.4 rpg, more than five ahead of UWA and 8.9 ahead of CBU.
* After a 2-4 start to the season, UWF has gone 9-1 and climbed into third place in the GSC. Of the team's last three losses, they have included a 4-point OT loss to Lee, a 4-point road loss to Mississippi College, a 3-point road loss to Columbus St. and a 4-point loss to Valdosta State.
* In the last 10 games, UWF has limited the opposition to 59.6 ppg and held them under 70 points eight times
42ND SEASON OF UWF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
* UWF enters the weekend with 614 all-time wins dating back 40-plus years to the inaugural season of 1981-82. The Argonauts are 618-531 all-time with six NCAA Tournament appearances, one Elite Eight, four GSC Regular-Season Championships and one GSC tourney title in 19 appearances.
* In 29 seasons of NCAA/GSC membership, the program is 265-196 for a .575 winning pct., ranking fifth among current members and third among those that have been in the league for at least 10 seasons.
YELTON IN 11TH SEASON AT UWF
* Stephanie Lawrence Yelton is in her 11th season at UWF and has a 179-119 (.601) record with the Argos … She is 235-203 (.537) in her 16th season as a head coach, which includes five seasons at Charleston Southern.
* She has seven winning seasons in her 10 previous years at UWF.
* Yelton was named the GSC Coach of the Year in 2013-14 and 2018-19.
* She is 13-7 against Delta State and 10-4 against MC.
* The Morrow, Ga. native (suburb south of Atlanta) is a UNC grad from 1996 and was a 4-year letterwinner for the Tar Heels, where she won two ACC Championships and the 1994 NCAA National Championship – she threw the inbounds pass on Charlotte Smith's game-winning buzzer beater in the 1994 title game.

* Stephanie Lawrence Yelton moved into second place on the UWF women's basketball coaching victories list a few games ago, notching her 176th win. She is now just five wins away from owning the record.

ABOUT DELTA STATE
* DSU is 7-11 overall and 6-8 in GSC play. The Lady Statesmen have lost their last three games and are tied for eighth place.
* Three players average at least nine points per game, led by forward Camryn Davis at 13.8 ppg and 6.9 rpg. She also leads the team with 28 steals and ranks fourth in the GSC with 2.8 offensive rpg.
* Tracy Stewart-Lange is in her first season at DSU. She spent the previous 17 seasons at her alma mater/hometown school Lyon College in Batesville, Ark., leading the Scots to a 366-167 record and 11-consecutive NAIA postseason trips from 2012-22.
SERIES HISTORY
* DSU leads the series 17-15, which dates back to the 1994-95 season. The teams did not play regularly until 2011-12 season as the first 10 contests came as non-conference crossover games or in GSC Tournament play as a result of the teams being in opposite GSC divisions.
* The teams have split the last 30 meetings, but the Argos have won 11 of the last 15 dating back to their GSC Championship win in March 2014.
* UWF won the first meeting this season, 63-39, getting 17 points and 17 rebounds from Jaclyn Jarnot. The Argos also had a pair of 10-0 runs in the first half to take a 33-11 lead into the break.
ABOUT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE
* MC enters the weekend sitting at 4-13 overall and 3-11 in the GSC, putting the Lady Choctaws in 12th place. Their wins have come against LeMoyne-Owen in Cleveland, Miss., and at home against UAH, UWF, and Christian Brothers last weekend.
* They are 0-8 on the road and have three 4-game losing streaks this season.
* MC ranks 12th in the GSC in scoring (54.7 ppg) and field goal shooting (.351).
* Junior Kyiah Julian ranks 13th in the GSC with 11.6 ppg and 22nd with 4.3 rpg. Freshman Keller Bigham is 17th with 8.1 rpg.
SERIES HISTORY
* UWF is 10-4 all-time against MC and is 7-0 in Pensacola.
* Five of the 14 games have been decided by single digits, including the first meeting this season, which was won by MC, 55-51, in Jackson, Miss. Nov. 26, 2022.
UWF PICKED 4TH IN GSC COACHES POLL, JARNOT NAMED PRESEASON ALL-GSC
* UWF was picked to finish fourth in the GSC Preseason Coaches Poll … UWF earned 107 poll points and was behind Union, Lee and Valdosta State in the top three spots, respectively. That trio earned 12 of the 13 first place votes. The remaining vote went to Alabama Huntsville despite being picked tenth by the consensus. Christian Brothers, Mississippi College and West Alabama were the remaining ones in the upper half, followed in order by Delta State, Montevallo, UAH, West Georgia, Auburn Montgomery and Shorter.
* Senior Jaclyn Jarnot was named to the 5-member preseason all-GSC squad. She returns for her final go-around as an Argonaut following a First Team All-GSC and All-Region season a year ago. In 2021-22, the Brooklyn Park, Minnesota native averaged 17.4 points and 13.0 rebounds per game, while recording 18 double-doubles in 25 games. Her rebounding avg. and double-double totals were each fifth nationally in Division 2.
