MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The UWF women's basketball team got double-doubles from
Jaclyn Jarnot and
Jaden Langford to power past AUM, 84-75, at the AUM Gymnasium on Monday.
UWF (7-5, 7-3 Gulf South) shot 39 percent but had 13 second chance points and 20 points off 16 Warhawk turnovers.
Jarnot made a career-high five 3-pointers as she finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Langford registered her first double-double of the year with 12 and 12, while drawing seven fouls with drives to the basket.
Jennifer Andrew made her first five baskets as she came off the bench for a season-high 17 points.
"I'm proud of my team for weathering so many storms today," UWF head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "The game was not smooth or easy, however, we stayed composed and made plays when we needed to."
The Argos fought through early foul trouble to erase a 15-5 deficit, closing the opening period on a 16-5 run for a 21-20 lead. The second 10 minutes went much the same way, with the Warhawks using a 10-2 run for a 35-30 advantage. The Argos then seized the momentum with a 7-0 run that was capped off by a
Shania Johnson three from the top of the key at the buzzer.
UWF got a spark from Andrew, who made all five of her shots from the floor to lead all players with 12 points at the break.
The third quarter saw the teams attempt 25 free throws, with the Argos making 13 of 18 as they built a 65-54 lead in the final minute on a Jarnot three and a Langford layup.
AUM (4-11, 3-8) shot 46 percent and was led by Jemeriah Moore's 19 points and four 3-pointers.
UWF will return to the UWF Field House for a pair of games this weekend, beginning Thursday night against West Alabama (9-4, 6-3). Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
