Win Streak Reaches 10, Yelton Ties UWF Coaching Record in Triumph at Spring Hill

UWF never trailed in 17th all-time win over the Badgers

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team had four players score in double figures and head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton tied the school's career coaching record with a 75-60 road win over Spring Hill on Saturday.

Jaclyn Jarnot and Zoe Piller each had a double-double and went for 20-plus points in the contest as the Argonauts won their 10th-consecutive game. Jarnot had 24 and 18 rebounds, while Piller made 8-of-12 from the floor for 21 points to go with 12 boards. Jarnot also surpassed 1,000 career rebounds and sits fifth among active Division II players with 1,002.

Moriah Taylor finished with 16 points as she totaled three 3-pointers, six assists and three steals. Jaden Langford scored 10 points.

UWF (15-5) shot 47 percent in the contest and outrebounded its opponent for the 19th-consecutive game. The Argonauts have held their last five teams and eight of the last 10 to 60 points or less.

UWF made 9-of-14 to start the game and grab a 19-14 lead six minutes into the game. The Badgers got within 32-27 midway through the second before Piller converted a 3-point play to put the momentum back in UWF's favor. The Argos closed the half on a 6-0 run for a 44-32 lead at the break.

SHC made it a 4-point game twice late in the third, but UWF responded early in the fourth, using a 9-1 run to put the margin back into double digits. The Argos ended the game on an 8-0 stretch.

"We had a solid effort and I'm super proud of this team and the effort they continue to give when the game doesn't come easily," Yelton said. "They are fighters and are determined. It's been fun to reach a career milestone with this group of women. They make my job enjoyable, and I love coaching with them."

Yelton has tied former coach Shannan Bergen, who won 183 games in 13 seasons from 2000-12 at UWF. Yelton, who is in her 11th year in Pensacola will have a chance to own the record outright when UWF plays at No. 24 Union on Thursday night in Jackson, Tenn. Tip-off at Fred DeLay Gymnasium is at 5:30 p.m.
