UWF Hosts Crosstown Foe, PCC, On Tuesday Night

Argonauts Come Back To Pensacola For Home Opener

PENSACOLA, Fla. – 
The UWF Men's Basketball Team will play their first home game of the 2023-24 season on Tuesday night when they host crosstown foe, Pensacola Christian College.
 
Tip-off between the Eagles and Argonauts is set for 7:30 pm inside the UWF Field House.  All UWF and PCC Students get in free to the contest.
 
West Florida is 1-1 on the season, after splitting two games at the GSC-SIAC Crossover in Atlanta.  On Friday, they suffered a 74-57 loss against the host, Clark Atlanta, before defeating Fort Valley State, 65-62, on Saturday.
 
Tautvydas Kupstas and Xavier Washington are shining for the Argonauts on offense with both averaging double-figures in scoring.  Kupstas, a graduate transfer from Skidmore College, is currently leading UWF in three-point field goals made (6), field goals made (8), total points (24) and points per game (12).
 
A native of Lithuania, Kupstas had a team-high of 17 points in the victory over Fort Valley State.  Meanwhile, Washington, a native of Palmetto, Florida, has been proficient from the free-throw line with 10 made free-throws in two contests, leading to 11.5 points per game.  
 
Defense Coming To Play: West Florida currently ranks sixth in the Gulf South Conference in opponents points per game, third in opponent field goal percentage, while Xavier Washington currently ranks 11th in the league in steals.  The Forward also has six defensive rebounds on the season, placing him in the top 25 in the league.
 
Washington is also first on the team in steals with four while Keith Hoffman, a forward from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, has two.  Xavier and Le'Tarion White each have a block.
 
About PCC: The Eagles, led by Jason Brown in his third season, come into the match-up at 1-3 on the season, fresh off a 100-36 win over Applachian Bible College.  Liam Gerdts, a sophomore from Burleson, Texas, leads the Eagles with 20 points per game.
 
The forward is shooting 56 percent from the floor and 53 percent from the three-point line. Joshua Alexander and Brandtley Koske have a combined 13 assists for Pensacola Christian with Alexander's eight points per contest tying him for second on the team.
