WINGATE, N.C. - The 17th-ranked UWF men's soccer team got two second-half goals and shutout eighth-ranked Wingate, 3-0, at in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship at the WU Soccer Complex on Saturday.
With the win, UWF (12-1-5) advances to the third round where it will face fifth-ranked Florida Tech on Thursday, Nov. 30 in Gaffney, S.C.
The Argonauts scored their first goal in the first half when
Keegan Ancelin took a ball from Jaime Guillen for a score in the 12th minute.
That's how it stood through halftime.
Then Sy Fontenot benefited from a poor clearance by Wingate goalkeeper Marcus Munby and scored on an open net at the 64:13 mark. Fontenot added another score in the 84th minute on a service from
Finn Werner.
UWF out-shot Wingate 17-7.
The Argonauts improved to 3-7-4 all-time in the NCAA Tournament as they advanced in the bracket for the fifth time.
