Â
ROME, Ga. –Â
Delaney Trushel made five 3-pointers and led all players with 18 points as UWF defeated Shorter, 82-66, at the Winthrop-King Centre on Saturday, giving head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton her 250th career head coaching victory.
Â
UWF (4-1, 1-0 Gulf South) shot 49 percent overall and made 13 shots from outside as they bested Shorter (1-4, 0-1) for the seventh-consecutive time.
Â
"This team is fun to coach. They are supportive of each other and share the ball well," said Yelton, who is now 250-206 in her 17th season as a head coach. "We have multiple players who are contributing at a high level."
Â
Trushel has made 12-of-18 from outside in the last three games.
Â
In addition to Trushel's hot day,
Claire Sutherland-Case came off the bench to score 15 points with three triples and five rebounds. The Argonauts' bench contributed 48 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
Â
Tyashia Bostick and
Brooke Kane had 10 apiece, while
Jaden Langford pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to go with six points.
Â
After falling behind 7-1, the Argos went on a 10-2 run thanks to long balls from Trushel and
Bella Stone. UWF claimed an 11-9 lead on its way to a 23-13 lead at the first quarter break. The teams played even in the second quarter as UWF held a 32-22 edge at the half.
Â
The lead stretched to 62-42 after the third and the Argos cruised to the victory.
Â
UWF will make the short trip north to Cleveland, Tennessee for a Monday match-up against Lee (2-2, 1-0). Tip-off at Walker Arena is set for 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
