Gulf South Conference champions of the regular season for the 15th time and winners of the GSC Championship for the 12th time, UWF enters the national field with an overall record of 25-7 and 15-1 in GSC play. Lynn owns a 24-7 season record and a 15-5 mark in Sunshine State Conference Play.Â
Â
This year marks the 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance for UWF since the program's first season in 2000. The Argos own a 14-16 all-time record in the NCAA Tournament, 9-7 in the opening round and 5-4 in the semifinals. Coach
Melissa Wolter, in her 20th season in charge of the team and GSC Coach of the Year for the seventh time, looks to guide her squad to its first Regional Championship, as UWF is 0-5 in finals matchups.
Â
The Argos have been nationally ranked throughout the entire season. They own an 18-3 record against South Region teams and are 6-6 against other teams that have earned NCAA Tournament berths.
Â
As has been the case for the last 10 matches, UWF will be without GSC Player of the Year and First Team All-GSC honoree
Avery Rodgers due to injury. However, several other key contributors aim to contribute and help the team make history.Â
Â
Middle hitter
Bailee Sterling, who was named to the AVCA Division II All-South Region team and Second Team All-GSC, leads the team in kills with 245 and aims to lead the team to the Elite Eight for the first time in her lone season as an Argonaut. She is No. 1 on the team and No. 7 in the GSC with 92 blocks and 0.83 per set. Her .308 hitting percentage is also fourth in the GSC and third on the team. Fellow middle
Jenna Zydlo also earned Second Team votes, as she is third in the league with a .313 hitting percentage and is second on the team with 87 blocks.Â
Â
The team's other Second Team All-GSC honoree is junior libero
Meg Brackhan, who is fourth in the conference with 471 digs and 4.06 per set. Setter
Gabi Moulton won GSC Freshman of the Year, as she totaled 793 assists and 6.96 per set. Both look to continue to lead the UWF defense and offense, respectively, in the national tournament. Â
Â
The top six of the eight South Regional spots went to SSC teams, with the seeds, in decreasing order, being awarded to Tampa, Lynn, Embry-Riddle, Eckerd, Florida Southern and Nova Southeastern. UWF made it in as the top team in the GSC, and the No. 8 seed went to SIAC champion Spring Hill. The Argos have a 2-2 record this season against members of the field.Â
UWF also has a 4-2 all-time record against Lynn, and it has taken the last four matches between the sides. The most recent meeting between the teams was a 3-1 win for the Argos in the 2021 South Region Crossover, and the last time the two met in the postseason was also in the South Regional hosted by Tampa in 2009, a five-set win for the Argos.
