UWF Set to Host Alabama Huntsville in Opening Round of GSC Tournament Play

Argos Will Kick Off at 1pm

PENSACOLA, Fla - The UWF Men's Soccer team will open their GSC Tournament Play at home as they face the Alabama Huntsville Chargers at home on Sunday, November 5th at 1pm.

Admission for adults are $10 and $5 for students with a valid school ID. Children under five are free.

About UWF

The Argos head into Sunday's match with a record of 8-1-5, with their last regular season match ending in a draw to Alabama Huntsville. UWF earned the #3 seed in the GSC Tournament play, and Alabama Huntsville sits ar #6. After the Chargers led early in the match, sophomore Kendrick Hernandez would be the saving grace for the team as he scored two back to back goals in 90 seconds to bring the score back to two all. 

Leading the way for the Argos are First-Team all GSC honorees Josiah Fontenot and Fynn Geigle. Fontenot leads the Argos with seven goals and three assists on the season. Fynn Geigle has been a part of the core back line for the UWF defense and has recorded seven assists with nearly 1100 minutes played. Kendrick Hernandez and Second-Team All GSC Honoree Caue Novaes have also been key components for UWF. 

UWF will face Alabama Huntsville in back to back matches as the Chargers were their final regular season match before tournament play. 

About Alabama Huntsville

The Chargers will sit at the #6 seed with their record of 6-4-6 for the regular season. UAH earned two Second-Team All GSC awards that were awarded to defender Jose Bannwart and forward Rafa Vega. Bannwart has helped lead the Chargers to five shutouts, and Vega leads the offense with five goals and one assist.

Head Coach John Carrier leads the Chargers, and the Argos have a record of 14-6-4 against UAH. 

Additional Details

The last time the two programs faced off was in the GSC tournament semifinals in 2019, with UWF winning 2-0.
 
The winner of Sunday's match advances to the GSC Championships semifinals on Friday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. in Huntsville, Alabama, to face the winner of the match between No. 2 seed West Alabama and No. 7 seed Lee.
