GAFFNEY, SC - After 110 minutes of play, the UWF Men's Soccer team fell short in the penalty kicks to the Florida Tech Panthers in the NCAA Sweet 16. The Argos end their regular season with a 12-1-6 record, a GSC Championship, and All-Region nominations. Florida Tech will play the Elite Eight on Saturday against Limestone, who defeated Barry University in the match following UWF's.Â
Scoring opened as
Eduardo Pampolini converted a PK after a foul on
Keegan Ancelin sent the senior to the spot. Pampolini placed his shot top left corner off the bottom of the crossbar to give the Argos a 1-0 lead. UWF would continue with the lead heading into the second half out shooting the Panthers 4-3.Â
During the second 45 minutes, the Panthers searched for an equalizer. In the 73rd minute, a cross and finish inside the box put the score equal at one.
Keegan Ancelin had a chance to bring the lead back to UWF off of a crossed in header, but the Panthers goalkeeper saved the ball from going over the line with his fingertips.Â
As the final whistle blew indicating the end of regulation, the teams were headed into overtime. Just two minutes into OT,
Kendrick Hernandez drew yet another penalty kick for his team as he was taken out on the left side of the penalty box. Once again,
Eduardo Pampolini stepped up, and converted his second penalty of the evening. Now leading 2-1, the Argos now had another 18 minutes to withhold their need.Â
With just 60 seconds remaining in the match, Florida Tech was awarded a free after a foul with the ball just over the midfield line. As a long ball was sent in, the Panthers used a flicked on header and a small tap in to even the score at two all with under a minute remaining.Â
The Argos unfortunately fell in the penalty kick shootout 4-2.

Marcus Pereira both converted their PKs on the evening.Â
Florida Tech and Limestone will face off on Saturday December 2nd at 6pm EST. The winner will head to the Final Four.Â
