PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The UWF women's basketball team will open a 3-game road trip on Thursday, traveling to No. 20 Union and Christian Brothers for a pair of tough Gulf South Conference contests in Western Tennessee.

ABOUT UWF
* UWF is 15-5 overall and won its last 10 games. The Argonauts are in third place in the GSC at 15-3 and looking to possibly sweep the season series with both Union and CBU this weekend.
* The Argos are averaging 68.9 points per game (5th in GSC), while shooting 42.1 pct from the floor (4th) and just 30 pct from outside (7th).
* UWF has one of the stingiest defenses in the league, leading the GSC in both FG pct. defense (.352) and 3-point FG pct. defense (.271).

YELTON IN 11TH SEASON AT UWF
* Stephanie Lawrence Yelton is in her 11th season at UWF and has a 183-119 (.606) record with the Argos … She is 239-203 (.541) in her 16th season as a head coach, which includes five seasons at Charleston Southern.
* She has seven winning seasons in her 10 previous years at UWF, and has clinched a winning campaign this year.
* Yelton was named the GSC Coach of the Year in 2013-14 and 2018-19.
* The Morrow, Ga. native (suburb south of Atlanta) is a UNC grad from 1996 and was a 4-year letterwinner for the Tar Heels, where she won two ACC Championships and the 1994 NCAA National Championship – she threw the inbounds pass on Charlotte Smith's game-winning buzzer beater in the 1994 title game.

* Stephanie Lawrence Yelton is now tied for the most wins in UWF women's basketball history following Saturday's victory over Spring Hill, bringing her school total to 183 wins. Yelton reached the 183 mark in 302 games over 11 seasons, well ahead of Bergen's 353 in 13 seasons.

WIN STREAK REACHES 10, TIED FOR FOURTH-LONGEST IN PROGRAM HISTORY
* UWF has 10-consecutive wins, tied for the fourth-longest streak in UWF women's basketball history. In 1998-99, the Argos won 15-consecutive before falling in the GSC Tournament; A year earlier, the 1997-98 team that started 17-1, reeled off 14-straight after a 3-1 start; The 2018-19 squad won the final 13 regular-season games for No. 3 on the list, just ahead of the 10-straight last season.

* UWF has outscored its opponents by an average of 72-55 during the streak with eight victories by double digits.
* Zoe Piller and Jaclyn Jarnot are both averaging 16.5 ppg and a double-double.
* The UWF defense is holding opponents to 34 pct FG shooting and 26 pct from 3-point range.

* UWF's 10-game winning streak is tied for the eighth-longest active streak in Division 2, while the 9-game conference run is ninth.

JARNOT EARNS GSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
* UWF women's basketball standout Jaclyn Jarnot was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.
* Jarnot averaged 21 points and 14 rebounds in wins over West Georgia and at Spring Hill last week. She debuted with 18 and 10 against the Wolves on Wednesday and then went for 24 and 18 against the Badgers three days later. She also surpassed the 1,000-rebound mark on Saturday.
* The Brooklyn Park, Minnesota native now has 1,268 points and 1,002 rebounds in her college career.
* This is the second time this season she has won the award.. She also won the award twice last year.

JARNOT MAKING CASE FOR GSC PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Jaclyn Jarnot has improved in just about every statistical category from a year ago. She enters the Union/CBU games with 17.2 points and 13.2 rebounds per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the floor and 32 percent from outside. She is fourth in the NCAA in rebounds per game and second in defensive rebounds at 10.8.
* She has posted a double-double in 15 of 20 games, which lead the conference and is fourth nationally.
* She is the only player in the GSC to rank in the top five of scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, 3-point FG percentage, blocks per game. She is also 8th in steals and 12th in assists per game.
* She was named the Division 2 Women's Basketball National Player of the Week and the GSC Player of the Week the second week of December. She averaged 28.5 points and 18.0 rebounds in a pair of victories over then-No. 5 Union and Christian Brothers. She had 24 points and 16 boards with three 3-pointers against the previously undefeated Bulldogs before posting a career-high 33 points and 20 rebounds versus the Lady Bucs on Sunday. She totaled seven assists, five steals and two blocks as well.

42ND SEASON OF UWF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
* UWF enters the weekend with 622 all-time wins dating back 40-plus years to the inaugural season of 1981-82. The Argonauts are 622-531 all-time with six NCAA Tournament appearances, one Elite Eight, four GSC Regular-Season Championships and one GSC tourney title in 19 appearances.
* In 29 seasons of NCAA/GSC membership, the program is 446-337 for a .570 winning pct., ranking fifth among current members and third among those that have been in the league for at least 10 seasons. 

UWF PICKED 4TH IN GSC COACHES POLL, JARNOT NAMED PRESEASON ALL-GSC
* UWF was picked to finish fourth in the GSC Preseason Coaches Poll … UWF earned 107 poll points and was behind Union, Lee and Valdosta State in the top three spots, respectively. That trio earned 12 of the 13 first place votes. The remaining vote went to Alabama Huntsville despite being picked tenth by the consensus. Christian Brothers, Mississippi College and West Alabama were the remaining ones in the upper half, followed in order by Delta State, Montevallo, UAH, West Georgia, Auburn Montgomery and Shorter.
* Senior Jaclyn Jarnot was named to the 5-member preseason all-GSC squad. She returns for her final go-around as an Argonaut following a First Team All-GSC and All-Region season a year ago. In 2021-22, the Brooklyn Park, Minnesota native averaged 17.4 points and 13.0 rebounds per game, while recording 18 double-doubles in 25 games. Her rebounding avg. and double-double totals were each fifth nationally in Division 2.
