Argos Host AUM, Montevallo On Big Weekend

Thursday is the Play 4 Kay game and Saturday is Senior Day

PENSACOLA, Fla.
 – The UWF women's basketball team returns home following a 3-game road swing to face AUM and Montevallo for the team's final two regular-season home games this weekend.
 
WEEKEND PROMOTIONS
PLAY 4 KAY: Thursday is the annual Play 4 Kay game where the women's basketball community across the country raises money and awareness for cancer research and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The cause is especially close to UWF head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton who played and coached against the legendary NC State head coach in the 1990s and 2000s. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and donations for cancer research will be accepted at the game.
SENIOR DAY: The program will honor three seniors - Jennifer AndrewJaclyn Jarnot and Haylee Luttrell - for their time with the program. Head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton will also be honored for becoming the winningest coach in program history two weeks ago when she earned her 184th win in 11 seasons at UWF.

ABOUT UWF
* UWF is 17-6 overall and 16-4 in the Gulf South Conference. The Argonauts are tied for third with Valdosta State, just a game behind Union and two back of league leader Lee.
* The Argos are 8-2 at home this season and have won their last five.
* UWF is third in the GSC in scoring offense (68.7 points per game) and sixth in scoring defense (59.6 ppg). The Argos have scored at least 70 points 13 times this season and are 12-1 in those contests.
 
UP TO 7TH IN D2SIDA REGION MEDIA POLL
* By virtue of its road victory over Valdosta State last Saturday, UWF is tied with the Lady Blazers for seventh in the D2 Sports Information Directors South Region Media Poll.
* On Wednesday, the Argos were among the 10 teams Under Consideration for the NCAA Tournament in the regional rankings that were released by the NCAA.
   
UWF-AUM SERIES HISTORY
* UWF is 12-2 against AUM since the Falcons moved from NAIA to NCAA Division 2 in 2016. The Argos are 4-2 at the UWF Field House and 8-0 at the AUM Gymnasium. Both losses have been by one possession – 52-49 in 2020-21 and 63-61 in 2019-20.

UWF-UM SERIES HISTORY
* UWF is 36-23 against Montevallo with the first 26 of those games coming when both teams were NAIA members and UM led the series 21-5 from 1982-94.
* Since UWF moved to NCAA status in 1994, they are 28-14 against UM. UWF is 17-13 in games played at Montevallo and won the last two played at Trustmark Arena.

UWF PICKED 4TH IN GSC COACHES POLL, JARNOT NAMED PRESEASON ALL-GSC
* UWF was picked to finish fourth in the GSC Preseason Coaches Poll … UWF earned 107 poll points and was behind Union, Lee and Valdosta State in the top three spots, respectively. That trio earned 12 of the 13 first place votes. The remaining vote went to Alabama Huntsville despite being picked tenth by the consensus. Christian Brothers, Mississippi College and West Alabama were the remaining ones in the upper half, followed in order by Delta State, Montevallo, UAH, West Georgia, AUM and Shorter.
* Senior Jaclyn Jarnot was named to the 5-member preseason all-GSC squad. She returns for her final go-around as an Argonaut following a First Team All-GSC and All-Region season a year ago. In 2021-22, the Brooklyn Park, Minnesota native averaged 17.4 points and 13.0 rebounds per game, while recording 18 double-doubles in 25 games. Her rebounding avg. and double-double totals were each fifth nationally in Division 2.
