No. 8 West Florida Drops Match to Flames

The Argos fell in a close 4-3 match

CLEVELAND, Tenn.- In a very intense match, the No. 8 West Florida Men's Tennis team fell 4-3 to the Lee Flames. The Argonauts are now 1-1 overall and in conference while the Flames improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Gulf South Conference play.

To start off doubles, Albin Ekenros and Adam Svensson could not bring home the victory as they fell 6-4 to Nico Ramirez and Francisco Faria as the No. 2 pair. Sebastian Rondon and Santiago Kearney dropped their match from the No. 3 position 6-0 to their opponent. Tomas Descarrega and Facundo Bermejo's match went 4-4 unfinished due to the Flames securing the lone doubles point.

In singles, three of the six matches went into tiebreakers due to the battle between both squads. From the top of the lineup, Bermejo battled, but ultimately fell in the tiebreaker 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 from the No. 1 position. Kearney won his first singles match of the season in two sets 6-4, 6-4 from the No. 3 position. Descarrega dropped his match in a tiebreaker 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 from the No. 2 position. From the bottom of the lineup, Rondon won his match 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 (7), making for his second win in singles of the season. Mateo Martinez won his match in two sets 7-5, 6-2 from the No. 5 position. Bernardo Costa dropped his match 6-0, 6-3 from the No. 4 position.

Up Next: West Florida will have a more road matches next weekend on Friday at Christian Brothers, Saturday at Harding, and Delta State on Sunday.
