Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn.- The West Florida women's tennis team grabbed their second conference win of the season against Christian Brothers 5-1 on Friday night. The Argonauts improved to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The match was delayed until later in the afternoon due to rain delays and was eventually relocated to indoor courts.
Since both teams decided to play to clinch, the match went straight into singles play. The Argos dominated from the start, winning five out of the six singles matches. From the top of the lineup,
Aline Midori Da Silva won her match in two straight sets 6-4, 6-0 from the No. 3 position. The freshman from Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil is now 2-0 in conference play on the season.
Carlota Verdu came out on top from the No. 2 position, winning her match 6-2, 6-1.
Mayumi Saguchi dropped her match from the No. 1 position as she fell to Beatriz Costa 2-6, 6-7.
There were strong performances in the bottom half of the lineup from
Guadalupe Martinez,
Jenna Svatos, and
Luiza Daud with all three winning in their matches.
Luiza Daud won her first singles match of the season 6-1, 6-0 from the No. 6 position. Svatos grabbed the victory in her match, 6-1, 6-0 from the No. 5 position. Martinez was victorious from the No. 4 position 6-1, 6-0 as she is now a perfect 3-0 to start the season.
The Argonauts will be back in action tomorrow in Searcy, Ark. against Harding. First set is to begin at 12 p.m.
