Women's Tennis Hosts Nova Southeastern for Home Opener

This will be the fifth meeting between these two teams

PENSACOLA, Fla.- After a perfect 3-0 weekend, the West Florida women's tennis team will host Nova Southeastern for their home opener on Wednesday, March 1 at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. The first set is slated for 2 p.m.

The Argonauts are coming off an undefeated weekend after going 3-0 against CBU, Harding, and DSU.  West Florida looks to continue their hot streak as they prepare to face nationally ranked Nova Southeastern.

Newcomers Carlota Verdu and Aline Midori Da Silva went undefeated in singles on the weekend. Verdu won her matches from the No. 2 position while Midori Da Silva was victorious from the No. 3 and No. 4 position. In doubles, Verdu partnered up with Midori Da Silva to sweep their opponent, Harding 6-0 as the No. 1 pair. Other standouts for the Argonauts have been Guadalupe Martinez, Jenna Svatos, and Luiza Daud, who have stepped up for the team. UWF is 4-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

ABOUT NSU
The Sharks are 5-1 on the season with their only loss to top-ranked NAIA school No. 1 Keiser. Diane Follin-Arbelet was named SSC Athlete of the Week after earning wins against No. 6 Lynn and No. 5 Flagler. She went 6-2, 7-5 against Lynn and 7-6, 6-3 against Flagler from the No. 5 position. Graduate student Julie Razafindranaly was honored as SSC Athlete of the Year last season as she went 15-1 in singles and 12-1 from the No.1 spot. NSU is top ranked at No. 2 in the latest ITA Coaches Poll behind No. 1 Barry.

Doug Neagle is in his sixth year as head coach of the NSU men's and women's tennis team. For four consecutive seasons, Neagle has lead the Sharks to the NCAA Tournament. In total, the Sharks have had nine NCAA Tournament appearances.

UWF vs. NSU History
The last time these two teams met was in 2019 where the Sharks came out with the victory 5-2 over the Argos. West Florida is 2-1 at the Ralph "Skeeter" Cason Tennis Complex against NSU.
