MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Zoe Piller had 28 points and 14 rebounds as UWF defeated Christian Brothers, 83-73, at Canale Arena on Saturday.
The win was number 184 for head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton at UWF, making her the winningest coach in program history, passing Shannan Bergen. Yelton accomplished the feat in her 11th season and 304th game – 49 faster than her predecessor.
UWF (16-6, 15-4 Gulf South) shot 47 percent in the game, including 53 percent in the first half as the Argonauts built a 41-29 lead behind 15 and five from Piller.
The Argos outrebounded the Lady Bucs 49-41 and were nearly unstoppable on the offensive glass. UWF had 13 rebounds on their offensive end and scored on 11 of them for 22 points.
In addition to Piller,
Moriah Taylor made four 3-pointers on her way to 14 points with five assists and two steals. Jade Langford has 12 points and six assists, while
Haylee Luttrell ended with 10 points
The Argos got the offense rolling late in the first, outscoring the Lady Bucs 17-6 in the last 5:00 for a 21-12 lead. UWF continued to stretch the lead after an 8-0 run in the second led to the large halftime lead. The advantage reached 23 points in the fourth before CBU got within 10 at the final buzzer.
CBU (10-12, 7-11) ended with 36 percent shooting and was led by Yaya Coleman's 18 points and nine rebounds.
UWF clinched a spot in the GSC Championship and will return to action next Saturday with a road game at Valdosta State (17-4, 16-3). Tip-off at the VSU Complex is at 2 p.m. Eastern Time.
