UWF Wraps Up Series at Alabama Huntsville

Argonauts back in action March 18-19 at home

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of West Florida softball team finished up a series on the road with Alabama Huntsville on Saturday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader. West Florida is now 8-10 overall and 2-6 in the Gulf South Conference.

Jessica Ford had a team-best three hits between the two games, and Hannah Harper, Erin Moon, and Kelsey Hodges each had two hits in Game 2.

West Florida is back home on Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19 for a series with Mississippi College.

GAME 1: UWF 1, UAH 10
Harper led off Game 1 with a walk and came around to score just a few batters later, on Ford's first of three hits on the day. That RBI was Ford's ninth of the season, tying her for the team lead.

UWF led 1-0 after an inning but the Chargers rallied off 10 unanswered runs across the next three innings to take the win.

West Florida struggled to get any offense going against UAH starter Katie Bracken. Ford would double in the fourth inning, but that would be all for the Argonaut attack.

GAME 2: UWF 6, UAH 7
The Argonauts got ahead early again in Game 2, when Moon lifted a sacrifice fly to score Harper in the first. UAH scored seven unanswered runs from the first through the third, but UWF didn't go away easily.

With two outs and runners on first and third in the top of the fifth, Madelyn Vasquez and Laurynn Boggs pulled off a double steal that allowed Boggs to score. Moon drove an RBI single through the left side shortly after, cutting the UAH lead to 7-3.

UAH looked to add some insurance in the bottom of the fifth, but a fly ball to right from Gracie Green was caught by Ford, and she made the throw home to catch Jada Henderson and end the inning with a double play.

That momentum carried into the top of the sixth, with a one-out double from Kelsey Hodges. After a single from Boggs and a Bella Holliday walk, Hannah Harper drove a bases-clearing double to left-center field and put UWF within a run.

UWF was unable to muster a run in the seventh, but did get singles from Ford and Hodges.
