PENSACOLA, Fla.- The West Florida women's tennis team prepares for their fifth Gulf South Conference match of the season against Montevallo on Saturday, March 18 at 1 p.m. The contest will be at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
ABOUT UWF
*The Argos are 5-7 after coming off a 4-3 against No. 22 Angelo State on Wednesday evening. In the GSC standings, UWF is seated fifth with a 3-2 conference record.
*
Carlota Verdu ranks No. 52 in the ITA National Singles Ranking as she is currently 5-6 overall and 5-5 from the No. 2 position. Teaming up with
Aline Midori Da Silva, their doubles team is 5-2 as the No. 1 pair.
*Sophomore
Luiza Daud is 8-1 overall on the season with a 5-6 record from the No. 6 position.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
*Montevallo brings a 3-5 overall record into Saturday's contest but is currently riding a two-win streak following wins against GSC opponents, Christian Brothers and West Georgia.
*Mireia Turro earned GSC Player of the Week at the beginning of March. The Barcelona, Spain native grabbed a 6-4 victory in doubles with her partner Cyba Ozzor against Georgia College. In singles, she defeated No. 9 Sofia Shing in the tiebreaker from the No. 1 spot. Turro is currently 4-2 overall in singles for the Falcons.
*Senior Eva Dirr is another leader for the Falcons with a 4-3 overall record. Montevallo is sixth in the GSC standings behind West Florida.
UWF VS. UM HISTORY
*Saturday's contest will be the 10
th meeting between these two programs with the Argos holding the 9-0 undefeated record on the series. West Florida recorded their ninth consecutive win on March 5, 2022, following a 4-3 victory in Montevallo, Ala.
