No. 22 West Florida Faces No. 6 Lynn on Friday

The match will be held at the courts in Valdosta, Ga.

PENSACOLA, Fla.- The No. 22 West Florida women's tennis team will travel to Valdosta, Ga. to face No. 6 Lynn on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. (EST) at the VSU Tennis Courts.

In their home opener against No. 2 Nova Southeastern, the Argonauts dropped a tough fight 5-2 to the Sharks. West Florida found wins from the No. 4 and No. 6 position with Guadalupe Martinez winning 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (7) and Luiza Daud was victorious 6-1, 6-1. In doubles, Carlota Verdu and Aline Midori Da Silva came up with a 6-2 win as the No. 1 pair over the Sharks. The duo is a perfect 3-0 as a pair.

Verdu was named GSC Freshman of the Week announced by the conference on Wednesday. The standout from Barcelona, Spain went undefeated in singles 3-0 over the weekend. From the No. 2 position, Verdu is 4-2 overall and 3-1 in conference.

ABOUT LYNN
The Fighting Knights are ranked No. 6 in the latest ITA Coaches Poll with a 4-1 start to the Spring season. Their most recent win comes from a sweep over Davenport 4-0 on Feb. 26. Lynn took victories in two of the three doubles matches with the third match going unfinished due to the Fighting Knights earning the lone doubles point. The Fighting Knights return four athletes including Giorgia Pigato, who heads the lineup after winning 15-straight singles matches last season. The senior finished as the No. 17 player in the nation.

Other standouts for Lynn are Greta Schieroni, who is ranked No. 5 and Kristen Younes is currently No. 9 in the ITA South Regional ranking. Schieroni and Zofia Podboil team up as the No. 1 pair for the Fighting Knights as the pair is 2-1 in doubles.

Mike Perez is in his 34th season at the helm of the men's and women's tennis program. Perez is seeking to claim the program's 12th SSC Tournament Championship.

UWF vs. LYNN History
This marks the 13th meeting between these two squads. The Argonauts dropped a competitive match to the top-ranked Fighting Knights 4-1 last March.
