PENSACOLA, Fla.- The West Florida women's tennis team took care of business on Monday afternoon after the Argos defeated No. 50 Southern Arkansas 5-2.
West Florida improves to 7-7 with the Muleriders dropping to 5-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UWF claimed the lone doubles point after winning from all three positions.
Aline Midori Da Silva and
Carlota Verdu won 6-4 from the No. 1 spot.
Guadalupe Martinez and
Mayumi Saguchi took home the victory from the No. 3 position 6-2.
Luiza Daud and
Nathalia Mossambani rounded out the last doubles point with a win 6-3 as the No. 2 pair.
The Argos continued their dominance in singles with victories in four positions.
In singles, Midori Da Silva claimed a win for the Argos as she won in two sets 6-1, 6-2 as No. 2. Saguchi won a close match 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 from the No. 1 position.
Guadalupe Martinez battled against Annika Berrendorf from the No. 3 position but she ultimately fell in the tiebreaker 1-6, 6-4, 6-7.
From the bottom half of the lineup,
Jenna Svatos earned another win for the Argos in two sets 6-2, 6-2 as No. 5. Daud won the first set 6-4, fell in the second 3-6, and came back 7-6 to win the match from the No. 4 position.
Giuliana Sacco put up quite a fight but was unable to secure the win as she fell 2-6, 7-5, 4-6 as No. 6.
Up Next: The Argos swing back into action at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on Wednesday, March 22 against Columbus State. The first set will begin at 1 p.m.
