VALDOSTA, Ga.- The No. 22 West Florida women's tennis team put up a tough fight, but fell short to top-ranked No. 6 Lynn on Friday afternoon 4-0 at the VSU Tennis Courts. Lynn improves to 5-1 while the Argos fall to 4-4.
The Fighting Knights took the victory in doubles from the No. 2 and No. 3 position.
Mayumi Saguchi and
Nathalia Mossambani dropped their match 6-4 to Giorgia Pigato and Dolores Molina from the No. 3 position.
Jenna Svatos and
Luiza Daud could not come up with the victory from the No. 2 spot.
Aline Midori Da Silva and
Carlota Verdu's match as the No. 1 pair went unfinished due to Lynn claiming the lone doubles point.
In singles, three of the six singles matches went unfinished because the Fighting Knights securing the victory.
From the top of the lineup, Midori Da Silva put up quite a fight from the No. 3 position, but she ultimately fell 6-1, 7-5 to No. 28 ranked Kristian Younes. Saguchi was unable to get the win from the No. 1 position as she fell 6-2, 6-1. Verdu's match went unfinished from the No. 2 position, but she was winning the second set 5-3 before the match ended.
Luiza Daud and
Guadalupe Martinez's match were unfinished from the No. 4 and No. 6 position. Svatos dropped her match 6-2, 6-1 as the No. 5.
"We had another tough match against a top 10 nationally ranked opponent," said head coach
Derrick Racine. "Once again, we hung in there and competed in every match. We came up a little short and lost today, but our team is young and we're learning with every match. I feel like these matches will only make us stronger as we head through the season."
Up Next: The Argonauts will host West Alabama for their second home match of the season on Tuesday, March 7. The first set will begin at 2:00 p.m.
