PENSACOLA, Fla.- The No. 35 West Florida women's tennis team will wrap up their final two home matches of the season with Gulf South Conference matches against West Georgia on Friday and No. 15 Mississippi College on Saturday and then a road match at No. 30 AUM on Sunday.Â
Friday and Saturday's contest will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. Sunday's contest is slated for 1:00 p.m. at the AUM Tennis Complex.
ABOUT UWF
*The Argos are ranked No. 35 in the most recent ITA national ranking with an overall 9-7 record and 4-2 GSC conference record.
*UWF remains fifth in the GSC standings behind Lee. On their home courts, the Argos are 5-3 and currently hold a five-match win streak.
*Freshman
Carlota Verdu ranks No. 58 in the ITA national singles ranking. Verdu is 7-7 in singles on the season from majority the No. 2 position.
*Rookie
Aline Midori Da Silva was named GSC women's tennis Freshman of the Week after going 3-0 last week over three nationally-ranked opponents. She leads the Argos with ten wins in singles on the season.
*Midori Da Silva and Verdu team up as the No. 1 pair for the Argos as they are 7-4 on the season.
*Other standouts include
Luiza Daud, who is 9-3 in singles from majority of the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 position. Daud and her partner
Nathalia Mossambani teamed up as the No. 2 doubles team with a 5-1 record.
SCOUTING THE WOLVES
*West Georgia holds a 10-4 record as a team with a 2-4 conference record. The Wolves are eighth in the GSC standings.
*UWG has a four-match win streak heading into Friday's contest.
*Iuliia Dmitrieva has been a driving force for the Wolves with ten wins in singles on the season as No. 1. Dmitrieva and Sophie Mnich are 9-5 in doubles as the No. 1 pair.
*Mnich is another standout for the Wolves with an 8-4 in singles.
UWF VS. UWG HISTORY
*This will be the 13
th match between these two squads in program history. UWF holds the overall series record 12-0 over the Wolves.
*In their last match, the Argos swept the Wolves 7-0 with wins from Daud,
Raissa Wagner, and
Giuliana Sacco.
SCOUTING THE LADY CHOCTAWS
*No. 15 Mississippi College have twelve wins on the season with only one loss to Division I school McNeese State.
*The Lady Choctaws are ranked second in the GSC standings with a 5-0 conference record.
*Anna Hudson earned GSC freshman of the week on March 8 after she won the clinching point 4-3 against No. 14 St. Mary's (Texas). She is 6-3 in singles from the majority of the bottom half of the lineup.
*Standouts Gabrielle Geolier and Fernanda Cota lead the Lady Choctaws in singles as Geolier is 10-1 from the No. 3 and No. 4 position and Cota is 11-2 from the No. 2 and No. 3 position.
*Cota and Ely Alas have been unstoppable for MC as the No. 1 doubles team with a 10-1 record as the No. 1 pair.
UWF VS. MC HISTORY
*The Argos hold the overall series record with an 11-0 record over the Lady Choctaws. In their last match, UWF defeated MC at home in a close match 4-3. Daud sealed the clinching point for the Argos to win the match.
SCOUTING THE WARHAWKS
*Auburn Montgomery ranks No. 30 in the latest ITA national rankings and hold a 13-4 overall record. The Warhawks are 5-1 in conference play on the season.Â
*Freshman Regina Urbiola is the only Warhawk ranked in singles as she ranks No. 49 in the ITA singles ranking. Urbiola is 10-4 from the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.Â
*In doubles, Urbiola and her teammate Estefanie Garcia rank No. 13 in the ITA doubles ranking. The pair is 12-2 as the dynamic duo for the Warhawks.
UWF VS. AUM HISTORY
*The series record is tied 8-8 for both squads. The Argos fell to AUM 4-3 last April in the GSC Semifinals.Â
