PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida softball team picked up a series win over Delta State on Sunday with a 15-7 victory at the UWF Softball Complex. The win pushes UWF to 8-7 on the year with a 2-3 mark in the Gulf South Conference.
West Florida put the game out of reach in the first inning, taking an 8-0 lead in the opening frame. The Argonauts tallied eight hits in the inning, including a pair of singles from
Hannah Harper, a double from
Erin Moon, and a two-run triple from
Jessica Ford.
Chelsea Dumas added an RBI single in the second to keep the lead at eight runs, and
Kelsey Hodges doubled to bring in two more runs in the third.
Delta State picked up runs in the second through fifth innings but never got within four runs of UWF.
UWF finished off the game in the sixth, starting with a pair of sacrifice flies from
Alayna Lowery and
Laurynn Boggs. Boggs later scored on a throwing error from Delta State, before
Madelyn Vasquez singled to right center to score Harper and end the game.
Jeya Prasad entered the game in the second inning and threw 4.2 innings in relief of
Hannah Harper. Prasad earned the win and improved to 3-3 on the year.
Dumas picked up her second three-hit game of the season,
Kayla Mayo had her first three-hit game of the year, and four other Argonauts had two hits each.
Vasquez stretched her hitting streak to 12 games, Harper's was extended to 7, and Mayo has now hit in 5 games in a row.
UWF is on the road Saturday, March 11 and Sunday, March 12, for a series with Alabama Huntsville in Huntsville.
