PENSACOLA, Fla.- The No. 22 West Florida women's tennis team is back at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex for their second home match of the season. The Argonauts will square off against No. 12 West Alabama on Tuesday, March 7 at 1 p.m.
ABOUT UWF
*UWF is 4-4 on the season and is currently fifth in the Gulf South Conference women's tennis standings with a 2-1 conference play record. They are 0-1 at home after facing No. 2 Nova Southeastern last Wednesday.
*Freshman
Carlota Verdu earned GSC Freshman of the Week as she is currently 4-2 as the No. 2 for the Argos.
*In doubles, Verdu and her teammate
Aline Midori Da Silva are a perfect 3-0 as the No. 1 pair. The duo defeated Eva Goncharov and Diane Follin-Arbelet from No. 2 NSU.
*Senior
Mayumi Saguchi leads the Argos from the No. 1 position with a 3-5 record.
UWF NO. 22 IN ITA RANKING
*West Florida sits at No. 22 in the latest ITA Ranking released on Feb. 17.
*The next ITA Ranking will be released on Wednesday, March 8.
ABOUT UWA
*The Tigers lead the GSC standings with an undefeated 5-0 record and 11-0 overall record. They have swept their opponents in the last four out of five matches.
*Hardijia Vidnere and Heden Ly are 8-0 as a pair. Haina Franco ranks No. 12 in singles in the South Region and she is currently 10-1 from the No. 1 position.
*In singles, Deewajee is 7-0 with Ly having a 9-2 singles record.
*West Alabama is the reigning GSC Champions after going 20-5 last season.
UWA NO. 12 IN ITA RANKING
*The Tigers are seated No. 12 in the ITA Ranking. They finished No. 14 last season after falling to No. 1 Barry in the NCAA South Regional Final.
UWF VS. UWA HISTORY
*The Argos are 17-5 overall against the Tigers with a 7-2 record on their home courts.
*West Florida lost 4-0 to UWA in Livingston, Ala. last March.
