PENSACOLA, Fla.- The No. 5 West Florida men's tennis took down No. 30 Mississippi College 5-2 on Saturday afternoon to cap off a perfect 8-0 home record on the season.
This is the second consecutive year the Argos have been undefeated at home. The Argos move to 13-2, 6-1 GSC while the Choctaws drop to 10-5, 4-2 GSC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was all UWF from the beginning as the Argos won from all three doubles positions.
Facundo Bermejo and
Tomas Descarrega dominated their match as usual with a 6-4 win from the No. 1 position.
Albin Ekenros and
Adam Svensson came up with the victory from the No. 3 position 6-3.
Bernardo Costa and
Sebastian Rondon grabbed the final win in doubles 7-5 as the No. 2 pair.
After a lightning delay, the Argos got right back to it in singles.
From the top of the lineup, Bermejo won his match in two sets 6-3, 6-2 as No. 2. The senior improves to 10-3, 5-1 GSC in singles on the year.
Descarrega dropped a tough match to Rafael Sabio 3-6, 7-5, 3-6 from the No. 1 position.
Santiago Kearney fell in two sets to Joe Jarvis 6-1, 6-4.
The Argos won from all three positions in the bottom half of the lineup. Rondon came up victorious 6-3, 6-0 from the No. 4 position. The freshman moves to 13-1, 6-0 GSC on the season.
Mateo Martinez continues to dominate from the No. 5 singles as he improves to 9-2, 5-0 GSC. He won his match 6-4, 6-2.
Joaquin Estevez grabbed the final win for the Argos from the No. 6 singles as he won the first set 6-3, fell in the second 3-6, and won in the tiebreaker 1-0 (10-6).
Up Next: The Argos will be on the road tomorrow in Montgomery, Ala. for another GSC match against No. 30 AUM. The first set is slated for 1:00 p.m.
