PENSACOLA, Fla.- It was a great way to end the home stretch for the No. 35 West Florida women's tennis team. The Argos took down No. 15 Mississippi College 4-3 in Saturday's contest.
West Florida moves to 11-7, 6-2 GSC while the Lady Choctaws drop to 12-2, 5-2 GSC. The Argos finished 7-3 at home on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Guadalupe Martinez and
Mayumi Saguchi grabbed the first doubles win for the Argos 6-4 from the No. 3 position.
Aline Midori Da Silva and
Carlota Verdu dropped their match 6-1 to Ely Alas and Fernanda Cota on court 1.
It came down to
Luiza Daud and
Nathalia Mossambani to secure the lone doubles point. After a rain delay, the pair won the clinching point in doubles 7-5 from the No. 2 position.
Verdu came up with the first win in singles from the No. 2 position 6-3, 6-1. Saguchi dominated her match 6-3, 6-2 as No. 1.
Midori Da Silva won the first set 6-3, fell in the second 1-6. Heading into the third set, she was up 1-0 in the third set.
Jenna Svatos was the only Argo to win in the bottom half of the lineup. She won in two sets 6-3, 6-4 from the No. 6 singles.
Daud and Martinez fell in their matches from the No. 5 and No. 4 position, respectively. Daud fell 6-4, 6-0 and Martinez dropped her match 6-3, 6-4.
Up Next: The Argos will be on the road tomorrow for another GSC match against No. 30 AUM on Sunday, April 2. The first set is slated for 1:00 p.m.
