West Florida Suffers 4-3 Loss to No. 30 AUM on Sunday

The Argos are 6-3 in GSC play

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The No. 35 West Florida women's tennis team came up short to No. 30 AUM on Sunday to give the Argos their third conference loss of the season.

UWF falls to 11-8, 6-3 GSC while the Warhawks improve to 14-4, 6-1 GSC.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Argos got into the swing of things in doubles with a win from the No. 1 and No. 2 position. Carlota Verdu and Aline Midori Da Silva won their match as the No. 1 pair 6-3.

Mayumi Saguchi and Guadalupe Martinez were unable to come up with a win in their match as they fell 6-4 as the No. 3 pair.

Luiza Daud and Nathalia Mossambani grabbed the second doubles victory from the No. 2 position 6-3 for the Argos to secure the lone doubles point.

Heading into singles, Midori Da Silva grabbed the first singles win of the match 6-1, 6-4 as No. 3. Verdu fell in her match 6-3, 6-1 from the No. 2 position.

Saguchi dropped her match in three sets to Estefania Garcia from the No. 1 position 2-6, 6-2, 0-6.

From the bottom half of the lineup, Martinez battled but fell in her match 7-6 (7-1), 6-0 as the No. 4. Daud won her match in two sets 6-4, 6-3 from the No. 5 position. The score was tied 3-3 heading into the final singles match on court 6 with Jenna Svatos and Ane Ibarra.

AUM's Ibarra won the first set tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4) and the second set 6-4 from the No. 6 position over Svatos to clinch the match for the Warhawks.

"They came up a little short today against AUM but the girls fought hard and are really looking in good form," said head coach Derrick Racine. "As we head into our match with Valdosta State next Saturday. We are a young team and can fight. We have had a lot of adversity with injury this season, but the girls have never given up and are getting better and better every match."

Up Next: UWF will be on the road to Valdosta, Ga. on Saturday, April 8 for their last regular season GSC match against Valdosta State.
