VALDOSTA, Ga.- The No. 27 West Florida women's tennis team was victorious 5-2 over Valdosta State on Monday. The Argos finish the regular season 12-8, 7-3 GSC play while the Blazers fall to 6-9, 5-5 GSC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Argos started the day off strong with a win in doubles.
Carlota Verdu and
Aline Midori Da Silva swept their match 6-0 as the No. 1 pair. The pair finishes 10-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Guadalupe Martinez and
Mayumi Saguchi dropped a tough match 7-5 from the No. 3 position.
Luiza Daud and
Nathalia Mossambani won the clinching point for the Argos to grab the lone doubles point.
Heading into singles, the Argos only got one win from the top of the lineup. Midori Da Silva was victorious 7-5, 7-5 as No. 3. She is 13-5 overall and 7-1 in conference play in singles on the year.
Saguchi and Verdu dropped their matches from the No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Saguchi fell in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 5-7 while Verdu could not come up with the win as she fell 6-4, 6-3.
UWF grabbed wins from all three positions at the bottom of the lineup. Daud won her match in three sets 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 from the No. 5 position. Daud has had quite a season with a 12-4, 7-2 GSC record to conclude the regular season. Martinez dominated her match in two sets 6-0, 6-3 as No. 4.
Jenna Svatos grabbed the final win for the Argos to win the match from the No. 6 position. The freshman won the first set 6-4, fell in the second 3-6, and earned the win in the third set 6-1.

Up Next: The Argos will be back in action for postseason play at the Gulf South Conference Tournament. The tournament is set to begin on Thursday, April 20 and go through Saturday, April 22.
