PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida softball team dropped a pair of games against Auburn Montgomery on Friday afternoon.
West Florida's offense got going a little more in Game 2 but was held scoreless in the front half of the doubleheader.
The series finale has been moved to 10 a.m. on Saturday, due to the threat of inclement weather.
GAME 1: UWF 0, AUM 7
The West Florida bats struggled to get much going against Auburn Montgomery in Game 1. UWF tallied three hits and drew two walks in the contest, but could not bring anyone across.
AUM scored a pair of runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead, going ahead with a double steal and a defensive miscue from UWF.
The Warhawks would stretch the lead to 4-0 in the fourth, and 7-0 in the sixth, but UWF struggled to get anything going offensively.
The UWF defense had an uncharacteristic day, with four errors in the field.
GAME 2: UWF 2, AUM 6
Auburn Montgomery started the game off with a pair of hits and a groundout to take a 2-0 lead after the first inning in Game 2. The Warhawks brought in four more in the third to stretch their lead to 6-0.
UWF bounced back in the bottom of the third, when
Erin Moon lined a single up the middle to score
Hannah Harper, after Harper drove a double off the center field wall.
Emma Brice added another run with a single to right-center, scoring
Bella Holliday from second base.
That would be all the offense UWF could put together in the game. Harper and Brice each had a pair of hits in the game.
Alayna Lowery entered the circle in the third inning and spun 4.2 innings of scoreless relief with a pair of strikeouts. She lowered her season ERA down to 0.64 over 11 innings.
