No. 27 Women's Tennis Faces Valdosta State in First Round of the GSC Tournament

This will be the 33rd meeting between these two squads

GSC CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

PENSACOLA, Fla.-
The No. 3 seed women's tennis team gears up for the first round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament against No. 4 seed Valdosta State on Thursday, April 10. Thursday's contest is set for 10:00 a.m. at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Ala.

Admission will be free for fans attending. 

ABOUT UWF
*The Argonauts enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed behind No. 2 seed Auburn Montgomery and No. 1 seed West Alabama.
*West Florida has won 19 Gulf South Conference Championships in the past 23 seasons as a program.
*Last year, the Argos fell in the GSC semifinals to the No. 2 seed AUM in a close match 4-3.
*UWF is currently ranked No. 28 in the latest ITA national ranking with a 12-8 overall and 7-3 record in league play.
*Aline Midori Da Silva leads the team in singles wins with 13 and only five losses. The freshman is 10-3 from the No. 3 position. Midori Da Silva ranks No. 44 in the latest ITA singles ranking.
*In doubles, Midori Da Silva and Carlota Verdu team up from the No. 1 position as the No. 21 doubles team in the nation. The pair is 10-5, 5-2 GSC as No. 1 for the Argos.
*Luiza Daud has been making a statement as she earned GSC Player of the Week honors on 4/19. She is 12-4 overall and 7-2 in conference play in singles from throughout the lineup.
*Daud and her teammate Nathalia Mossambani have been unstoppable this season from the No. 2 position. The pair is 9-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in GSC play.

SCOUTING THE BLAZERS
*Valdosta State opens the tournament with a 6-9 record overall and 5-5 in conference play on the season.
*The Blazers are the No. 6 seed in the tournament behind No. 5 Lee. VSU has won four GSC championships with their last championship coming in 2010.
*Last season, the Blazers fell to No. 1 seed West Alabama 4-0 in the GSC semifinals. UWA went on to win the Gulf South Conference Championship with a 4-1 win over AUM.
*Olivia Pezo and Kayla Greco lead the Blazers with eight singles wins each and only five losses on the season. Pezo has been playing singles from the No. 2 position while Greco comes in from the No. 3 singles position.
*Natalie Kohoutkova is 7-6 and 7-3 in league play from the No. 1 singles position.
*Pezo and Greco team up as the No. 2 pair for VSU with an 8-5, 7-3 GSC record.

UWF VS. VSU HISTORY
*The Argos hold the overall series record 22-10 and have won the past 16 matches over the Blazers.
*UWF's most recent win came against the Blazers a little over a week ago as the Argos won 5-2.
*Thursday's contest will mark the 33rd meeting between these two squads.
