INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Committee selected teams on Monday evening that will be participating in the 2023 NCAA Division II Tennis Championships. The West Florida men's tennis team earned a No. 4 bid while the women's side received a No. 7 bid.
The men will face No. 5 seed Rollins at the host No. 1 seed Valdosta State on Friday, April 28 at 3 p.m. (EST). The women will travel and play No. 2 seed Nova Southeastern on Monday, May 1 at 10:00 a.m. (EST).
The West Florida men's tennis team is 15-4 as they enter their 26
th appearance in NCAA postseason play. At the NCAA tournament, the Argos have won four titles, two runner-ups finishes, and six third-place finishes as a team. The last time the Argos were crowned the NCAA National Title was in 2017. This season, UWF had four athletes selected to the All-GSC Teams this season including
Tomas Descarrega,
Facundo Bermejo,
Santiago Kearney, and
Sebastian Rondon. The Argos had an impressive run at home as they were 8-0 on their home courts. Â
The West Florida women's tennis team holds a 14-9 overall record. This is their 13
th season earning a bid in the NCAA Tournament after finishing Gulf South Conference Tournament runner-ups last weekend to GSC foe, West Alabama. In NCAA tournament history, UWF has made it to the NCAA finals twice and NCAA semifinals four times. The Argos had three athletes named to the All-GSC teams including GSC Freshman of the Year
Aline Midori Da Silva,
Mayumi Saguchi, and
Carlota Verdu.Â
Preliminary-rounds will be played May 1-2 at sixteen regional sites. The winning team from each site will advance to the finals, May 12-16, in Orlando, Florida. Rollins College and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission will serve as hosts.
