#5 UWF Opens Conference Play at Mississippi College and Delta State

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The University of West Florida women's soccer team will play on the road at Mississippi College and Delta State to begin regular season conference games.
 
No. 5 Argos will take on the Choctaws Friday, Sept. 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Robert P. Longabaugh Field and will conclude the weekend against the Statesmen Sunday, Sept. 17 at 1:00 p.m. at Delta Field.
 
A Look Back to Last Weekend
UWF went 1-0-1 over the weekend and remain undefeated. The Argos took on their first ranked team No. 10, Flagler on Friday (Sept. 8) which resulted in a 1-1 tie. The goals from each team were scored off penalty kicks.
 
Mya Swinton in the 19th minute drew a foul and made the PK. The lead held on till the 60th minute. The Argos committed a foul in the box to give Flagler the opportunity to tie the game.
 
On Sunday's match against Lynn, Isabela Labovic scored two goals to uplift the Argos to a 2-0 victory. Labovic scored the opening goal in under one minute of her appearance and knocked the second one in just 10 minutes later. Her back-to-back goals climbed her to tie Swinton as the second leading goal scorer on the team.
 
Charline Favier was awarded the opening assist. She leads the team with two assists, which both came from set pieces.
 
Argos in the Polls
UWF reclaimed their spot in the top-five United Soccer Coaches poll with an overall 3-0-1 record.
 
As UWF heads into conference contests, they sit at the top in the Gulf South Conference rankings with a .875 overall percentage. Following the Argos are four teams with a .750.
 
Scouting Mississippi College Choctaws
The Choctaws are one of four teams with a .750 overall percentage at a 1-0-1 record. They opened their season in Texas and tied Texas A&M International in a scoreless draw (Aug. 31) and following with a 3-2 win over St. Mary's.
 
Mississippi College is predicted to finish first in the conference by the Preseason GSC Coaches poll.
 
The Choctaws won the 2022 GSC Tournament and got an automatic bid into the NCAA Championships. They fell in the opening round over Florida Southern, 2-1.
 
Currently, the Hederman sisters total the Choctaws three goals. Forward, Erin Hederman tallies two goals with Avery Hederman coming behind at one.
 
The team has taken 27 shots but only six have come on goal – E. Hederman totals half of the team's shots on goal.
 
Goalkeepers Jessi Carro and Madison North have split time in the net. Each have played 90 minutes with Carro having a shutout to her name.
 
Argo vs. Choctaws History
The Argos took on the Choctaws in the final conference match last season. The battle was for the regular season conference title that the Argos secured after a 3-0 win.
 
Maciah Lipsey recorded three saves in her performance.
 
Overall, the Argos hold a 7-4 record and are on a two-game win streak. UWF played at Mississippi College's home turf in 2021 and resulted in a similar 3-0 victory.
 
Scouting Delta State Statesmen
Delta State currently holds a 1-3-1 record. They earned their first win over Milsaps College, Sept. 11 in a
7-0 final.

Defender Ava Webster leads the team with three goals. Forward Jae'lasha Julien follows with two.
 
The Statesmen are currently ranked 12th of 14 teams in the conference. Last season, they finished as the sixth seed and made an appearance in the GSC Tournament.
 
Argo vs. Statesmen
The Argos are undefeated over the Choctaws and have a 16-0-1 history record. The single tie came in 2021 at one-all.
 
UWF averages 4.94 goals a game and totals 84 goals since 2003.
 
The Argos have kept the Statesmen scoreless in 11 matches.
