PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Argonauts travel northwest today to take on West Alabama at 6 p.m. at Pruitt Hall in the opening game of Gulf South Conference play for both teams.
With an improved record of 6-4, UWF enters the matchup having moved up a spot in the AVCA NCAA Division II Poll, now in a tie for No. 16 with Regis, following its undefeated weekend in the Walk-On's UWF Invitational. The Argos defeated three teams who advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year, sweeping Charleston in three sets and taking down Flagler in a five-set thriller on Friday before coming back to win sets 2-4 against No. 20 Lewis on Saturday.

Avery Rodgers both played their way onto the all-tournament team. Zydlo racked up 33 kills, 40.5 points, a .406 offensive percentage and nine assisted blocks across the three matches, and Rodgers tallied 29 kills, a .334 percentage and 32.5 points.
Bailee Sterling registered 25 kills on .323 with 31.5 points.
Additionally, the GSC announced the Conference Players of the Week on Monday, and
Gabi Moulton has been named Freshman of the Week for the second time in her first three weeks in a collegiate jersey. The freshman setter from Columbus, Ohio, throughout all 12 sets over the weekend, contributed 65 assists, 24 digs and nine aces to the team's stat sheets.
The Argonauts rank in the top four in the GSC in points, hitting percentage, assists, kills, opponent service aces and opponent digs.
West Alabama enters 2023 looking to make strides after finishing in last place in the conference last season. The Tigers enter conference play with a 2-8 record, having just registered its second win against Lane College 3-1 on Thursday after previously beating NAIA member Oakwood in straight sets.
