UWF Opens GSC Play Against West Georgia at Home on Saturday

The Argonauts have won four of seven matchups with the Wolves

• Following a pair of road contests, UWF returns home for Family Weekend to play host to West Georgia. Kickoff at Pen Air Field on campus is set for 6 pm CT and a capacity crowd is expected.

FOUR DOWNS WITH UWF
1) UWF is averaging  26.7 points per game (73rd) on 381.7 yds of total offense (56th) with 14030 rushing (71st) & 241.3 passing (57th). The Argos rank 38th in 3rd Down Conversion and 11th in 4th Down Conversion.
2) UWF ranks 16th in the country in total defense (257.3 ypg) while ranking sixth with 12 QB sacks and 20th with 25 tackles for loss. Opponents are averaging just 171 yards passing and 86.3 yards rushing.
3) UWF is 3-3 all-time in GSC openers. The last two years have seen UWF face Delta State. The Argos had a 39-33 come-from-behind win in 2021 before a 45-42 OT loss at Pen Air Field last season snapped a 3-game win streak.
4) UWF is playing West Georgia for the eighth time. This could be the final meeting as the Wolves are moving to Division I beginning next season.

SOME MORE QUICK HITTERS ON THE ARGOS
• The Argos are fourth nationally in Red Zone Defense, allowing just a 33.3 pct. success rate.
* On offense, UWF ranks 35th with an 88.9 pct. Red Zone success rate.
• Senior QB Peewee Jarrett is second in the GSC (31st in NCAA) in completion percentage (64.4%), and 40th in passing efficiency, 45th in passing yards per game (231.0) and 35th in completions per game (18.7).
• Senior WR John Jiles averages 64.7 receiving yards per game and 24.3 yards per reception.

SERIES HISTORY WITH THE WOLVES
• UWF and West Georgia are meeting for the eighth time overall and the fourth time in Pensacola tonight - although it is the first game at Pen Air Field.
• UWF leads the series 4-3 following last year's 42-28 win in Carrollton. In one of the weirder twists, the road team has won all seven games.

UWF DEFENSE CAUSING OPPONENTS PROBLEMS
• UWF's defense has been terrorizing opponents at the line of scrimmage and in the backfield this season. The Argonauts rank ninth in the country in scoring defense, allowing just 12.3 points per game and are in the top 40 in total defense (16, 257.3 ypg), rushing defense (30th, 86.3) and passing yards allowed (40th, 171.0 ypg).
• Graduate transfer John McMullen leads the country with five QB sacks and is 13th with seven tackles for loss. Virgil Lemons III and Donovan Barnes each have an interception to their credit.

NOBLES FACES FORMER COACH
• UWF head coach Kaleb Nobles will be facing off against a former coach on Saturday in West Georgia's David Dean. Nobles spent three seasons as a student-athlete at Valdosta State from 2013-15 where he appeared in 23 games while Dean was the head coach.

ABOUT WEST GEORGIA
• UWG is 2-1 this year following last week's 38-35 come-from-behind win at Mississippi College. This is the Wolves' third-straight road game.
• David Dean is in his seventh season at UWG and 16th overall.
• This will be the final meeting between the teams as GSC members. UWG announced a move to the NCAA Division I level starting next year.

UWF AMONG THE BEST IN THE GSC SINCE 2016
• Even before they played a game in 2016, coaches, administrators and fans across the GSC footprint had a feeling UWF could be a major player in the league and Super Region 2 really quick. In their six-plus seasons of football, the Argonauts have won 26 GSC contests, ranking them among the best in the conference.
