BOX SCORE
JACKSON, Miss. – Le'Tarion White scored a season-high 21 points, but it was not enough as the UWF Men's Basketball Team fell to Mississippi College, 86-72, on Thursday night at Rugg Arena.
Â
West Florida drops to 6-12 and 4-10 in Gulf South Conference action, while MC improves to 9-8 and 8-5 in league action.
Â
UWF shot 43 percent overall from the field and 33 percent from the three-point line.  Along with White, UWF got 17 points and four rebounds from
Xavier Washington while
Channick Nkoma added 15 points.  White grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
"It was a hard-fought game on both ends of the floor for us tonight", said UWF Head Coach Justin Mann.  "We did a good job early of guarding their isolation plays.  However, they are a talented team and have a first-team all-conference player over there (Bolden) that makes plays."
Washington got the Argos off to a good start, as he knocked down two free throws at the 14:32 mark of the first half to give UWF a 10-5 advantage.  The teams traded the lead for the majority of the first frame before a jumper by Rashad Bolden gave the Choctaws a three-point lead with 5:29 left in the half. MC ended the frame on a 10-6 run to go into the break, up 33-26.
Â
West Florida opened the second half well, as they cut the deficit to three, three separate times in the opening minutes of the frame.  After a jump shot by
Le'Tarion White trimmed the deficit to five points with 12:55 remaining, MC went on a 12-0 run to extend the lead to 64-47 with 9:47 left.
Â
UWF was able to get the deficit down to ten on a jumper by
Sterling White III, and once again on a jump shot by
Tautvydas Kupstas, but MC was too much down the stretch as Andrew Seager bookended the final two minutes with a lay-up and a dunk to keep the Argonauts at a distance.
Â
Rashad Bolden led the Choctaws with 23 points as the hosts shot 55 percent (33-60) for the game.  Seager and Cam Brown added 16 and 15 points, respectively.  The pair also had eight rebounds, apiece.
"I am proud of our effort, but we do need to execute the gameplan", continued Mann.  "We have another game on Saturday and we are ready to watch the game film and get back to the basics. Go Argos!"
West Florida will be back in action on Saturday as they take on Delta State.  Tip-off from Cleveland, Mississippi is set for 4 PM.
