UWF Falls In Road Contest To West Georgia

Argonauts return home next Thursday against Union

BOX SCORE

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The UWF Men's Basketball Team struggled offensively as they fell, 88-57, to West Georgia on Wednesday night at the UWG Coliseum.

West Florida drops to 6-14 and 4-12 in Gulf South Conference play while UWG improves to 18-2 and 14-2 in league action.

UWF shot just 31.4 percent from the field and five percent (1-20) from the three-point line in the contest.  Both were season-lows in their respective categories.

Channick Nkoma and Le'Tarion White led the way offensively for UWF with 12 points each.  Xavier Washington had another strong game on the boards as he recorded a team-high 10 rebounds.  Rodney Bryant compiled six assists.

"We responded to their run in the first half after being down 17-6", said UWF Head Coach Justin Mann.  "We cut it down to three late in the first half before going to the half down nine.  We had plenty of opportunities to cut into the lead but we did not execute."

West Georgia got out to an early lead, as they held a 17-6 advantage at the first media timeout, going 7-9 from the field in that span. UWF would recover though, as a lay-up from Nkoma cut the deficit to three with 8:36 remaining.  A jumper from Tautvydas Kupstas, three minutes later, would bring the deficit back to three with 5:01 remaining, before the hosts went on a 10-4 run to end the frame and go into halftime up, 40-31.

In the second half, UWG got off to another quick start as they built the lead into the double-digit mark for the first time since the 15-minute mark of the first half.  After a jumper by Kupstas to shrink the advantage to 11, UWF would not get closer than a 15-point margin for the rest of the half, as UWG shot 49 percent in the second frame and connected on five three-pointers to blow the game open.

Zawdie Jackson had 16 points and seven assists to lead UWG as the Wolves shot 46 percent from the field as a team.  Camron Donatlan finished with a double-double, 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Cole Fisher and Tamaury Releford added 11 and 14 points, respectively.

UWF will have a week break, before returning home next Thursday to face Union.  Tip-off against the Bulldogs is set for 7:30 PM from the UWF Field House.

"We have eight games left, and six of them are at home", remarked Mann.  "I look forward to seeing our fans there and being in our environment.  The Argos will continue to fight. Go Argos!"
