October Donor of the Month: Dr. Gary Reglin
Why do you give to UWF Athletics?
I have been giving to UWF Athletics each year for more than 20 years. I give to support the student-athletes and because of the remarkable dedication each student-athlete demonstrates in academics and their chosen sport. I like the determination and hard work demonstrated in their practices which mirrors the academic accomplishments in the classrooms. Mostly, I like to brag to family and friends about the many conference championships and national championships won by our superior sport teams to include tennis, baseball, soccer, golf, and many others.
Why do you continue to give annually?
Now, my giving to athletics has become a habit and a joy to give each year as well as a season ticket holder in football. I enjoy the feeling of knowing that I, in some small way, helped very good athletic programs become better programs. I want to play a part in ensuring all the needs of the student-athletes are met to maximize their academic and athletic performances. Most important, for me, it is a pleasure to be part of a great university athletic family led and inspired by two remarkable presidents Dr. Judy Bense and now Dr. Martha Saunders. I think both presidents' efforts, visions, and achievements at the university inspired me to want to do more to help! I am really in awe of how far, how well, and how smoothly the two presidents transitioned UWF into the best university in athletics and academics, in my opinion, in the state of Florida. Great leadership really motivates me to want to get involved and help instead of staying on the sidelines and watching. Yes, I say the best university, Â even though my alma mater is the University of Florida.
What would you say is the best thing about supporting UWF Athletics?
I think the best thing is to know you are a part of and helping a close-knitted athletic family progress and win more conference and national championships. It is also good to know the student-athletes are excelling in academics and learning successful life skills and the value of hard work, sacrifice, determination, common sense, and being a team player which are critical to being at the top in any profession in the world.Â
What makes you passionate about UWF Athletics?
As stated, the tremendous success of the athletic programs over the years. Everyone, including myself, loves a connection to a winning team.
Anything else you'd like to add? For instance, a proud moment as an Argo fan or an experience you enjoyed.
Well, there are numerous proud moments. I guess one proud moment was several years ago when the UWF Women's Soccer team won the national championship, and two players (sisters) got a chance to play professional soccer. I was never really interested in soccer until I had this experience. Another unforgettable moment is the football team in its infancy winning a Division II National Championship. Another moment was UWF Football players being invited to try out for the NFL teams. There are many more proud moments like the tennis team winning so many conference and national championships until I lost count. There are many others. Go Argos!
