Given the recent news regarding Mississippi College's decision to discontinue their football program The University of West Florida will continue to be supportive of the Gulf South Conference in sustaining one of the top football conferences in NCAA Division II.

"The GSC has a long history of football success," said Dave Scott, Associate Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics. "UWF is a proud member of the Gulf South Conference and will look to help strengthen its football success for the future."

Statement from the GSC:
"We are disheartened following today's announcement by Mississippi College and recognize the difficult position this creates for the conference and our football playing members. The Gulf South Conference has a long history of success on the gridiron, and we are committed to preserving that tradition. Our strength as a football conference will once again be on display with two of our teams competing in this year's NCAA Division Il Championship."
