Argos Black Out Montevallo, Claim 15th Straight Victory

Five Argonauts Hit .400 Mark in Program’s 29th Consecutive Win over Falcons

PENSACOLA, Fla. - For its annual Black Out match, UWF volleyball (20-5, 15-0 GSC) did so and more to Montevallo (9-17, 6-10 GSC) at UWF Field House on Saturday afternoon in the hosts' fourth consecutive sweep (25-20, 25-10, 25-18). The victory is the Argos' 15th straight victory and its 29th straight over the Falcons dating back to 2003, the first season of Coach Melissa Wolter's tenure. The result is also their seventh consecutive sweep of Montevallo, including five regular season matchups and two in the GSC Championship semifinals.

The Argos followed a similar script from their Friday sweep of Alabama Huntsville with dominating offense and stifling defense among multiple playmakers. Despite just three hits separating the teams, UWF outhit the guests .291 to .059, forcing them into 14 more offensive errors. The lowest output the Argos had in a set was .182 in the tightest frame played today. Five Argonauts hit .400 in the contest as well as one hitter just under .600 and one just over .850. UWF also tallied a whopping 10 blocks to just two for Montevallo.

Senior outside Annie Monaco had the most productive offensive performance of both stops in her college career. The former Robert Morris Colonial found the floor on six of her seven swings for a stunning .857 percentage to go with a pair of block assists. Kumara Flanagain had her second highest career hitting percentage, as the sophomore out of Panama City, Fla., made good on 12 of her 17 attacks for a .588 output with three total blocks. Magdalena Vongkasemsiri had another monster game at the net, scoring six kills on .455 hitting while racking up seven blocks, the second-highest blocking total of her freshman campaign.

Jenna Zydlo scored five kills as part of a .400 afternoon with two blocks assisted. Emily Breazeale put up four kills and three digs. Gabi Moulton registered 31 digs, five digs and two block assists. Meg Brackhan and Taylor Teaman tied for the team lead with nine scoops.

The Argos remain at home for their next match, a midweek contest on November 6 at 6 pm against Auburn Montgomery. The event is UWF's first What-A-Game sponsored by Whataburger.
