Argos Earn Major GSC Awards for the 2024 Season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala - The GSC announced the Major Awards for All GSC selections for the 2024 season this afternoon. Keegan Lynch was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Year alongsideĀ Vicent Sanchis Olmedo of Christian Brothers, and Coach Bill Elliott was named the 2024 Men's Soccer Coach of the Year. The Argos had the most outstanding numbers in All GSC selections, with six Argos named to First Team All GSC for the 2024 Season.

Co-Defensive Player of the Year/First Team All-GSC: Keegan Lynch
Keegan Lynch is one of the vital pieces of the UWF defensive back line and has also had attacking power for the Argos. Lynch has started and played in every match besides one due to injury and has logged 1129 minutes on the year, with 11 90-minute matches for the Argos. Lynch, as a defender, has helped the Argos to only 17 goals versus their 34 goals scored on the season. This season, Lynch has logged two goals and four assists as a defender, with a total of eight points, Lynch's first goal game in a clutch situation as the defender scored in the 80th minute of the match against Delta State to tie the score at two a piece to keep the Argos from a loss. Lynch also just scored his second goal of the goal against West Alabama this past weekend as the senior found the back of the net off of a corner to help put the Argos up 1-0. Lynch's first season assist came against Mississippi College in a 5-2 win over the Choctaws. Lynch had three games running where he assisted in a goal against the Argos. His first assist came in the 2-1 win over #11 ranked AUM, as Lynch had the first assist to Aegisson's goal over the Warhawks. His second assist came against Union in their 3-0 shutout victory against the Bulldogs, and his most recent assist was against Spring Hill, where Lynch assisted Kendrick Hernandez for their lone goal against the #2 seeded team. Lynch has logged eight shots with five on goal, resulting in a 0.625% SOG. Lynch is one the most logged players on the UWF squad and has been vital for the team.Ā 


Coach of the Year: Bill Elliott
Coach Bill Elliott led his team to an overall record of 9-1-4 (7-0-4 in GSC), going without a loss in conference play for the 2024 season. This is the second consecutive year of Coach Elliott leading the Argos to the #1 seed heading into post-season GSC Play. Coach Elliott helped coach the Argos to 34 goals scored, and only allowing 18 on the season.

First Team All-GSC Recipients

Keegan Ancelin
Keegan Ancelin, one of the most vital pieces of the UWF squad, has had an outstanding year for the Argos. This season, Ancelin has started and played in every single match for the Argos. As a forward,Ā  Ancelin has logged 1010 minutes on the pitch, logging two 90-minute games, with his lowest minutes played being 40 against Trevecca Nazarene, where Ancelin scored three goals in 40 minutes on the pitch. Ancelin averages 72 minutes per match for the Argos in their attacking line. This season, Ancelin has scored 11 goals for 22 points on the season and five game-winning goals for his team. Ancelin has scored 11 of the 35 goals for the Argos, racking in nearly ā…“ of the goals for the team. Ancelin is second in the conference for shots with 54, second in the conference for goals with 11, first in the GSC for game-winning goals with five, and tied for first in the conference for shots on goal with 26 to his name. Ancelin is second in the GSC for points with 22. Keegan has logged at least one shot a game, upwards of seven shots a game for the Argos, averaging 3.8 shots each match. Ancelin's first three goals came from 2 non-conference matchups where he scored in the opening game of the season against Tampa and scored two more goals in the Argos win over Saint Leo 5-3. Ancelin's second goal of that match would be his first game-winner of the season. Ancelins's fourth goal came in the 2-2 draw against Delta State, where the senior started the scoring for the Argos. Ancelin earned himself a hat trick in his 40 minutes of play against Trevecca Nazarene as the Florida native but three away in 40 minutes. In the next two games, Ancelin showed how he comes up big in dire situations. Ancelin's first game-winner came against Montevallo as the senior scored the second goal to give the Argos a 2-1 victory. Ancelin scored the game-winning goal against the #11 ranked AUM as the senior scored late in the 84th minute to win the game. As of most recently, Ancelin scored two goals in the 3-0 win against Union last month, giving him 11 goals at the end of the season. Ancelin holds a 0.491 SOG % for the 2024 season and was a huge part of Argo's success this year.Ā 

Mar Aegisson
Mar Aegisson has joined the UWF squad this year and has been a vital piece of the Argonaut back-line as well as a key attacking piece for the team. Aegisson has started and played in all 14 matches for the Argos, logging a total of 1057 minutes, averaging 75.5 minutes per game. The Iceland native has recorded five goals and three assists on the season, giving him 13 points for 2024. Aegisson has logged 12 shots with nine on goal, earning a 0.750 SOG %. Aegisson started the season strong as he registered one goal and one assist in their 5-3 win over Saint Leo early in the season. Aegisson earned another goal for the Argos in their 3-2 win over Rollins with two shots on goal during the game. Aegisson added to the scoring in the 6-1 win over Trevecca Nazarene. Aegisson scored in back-to-back games for the Argos, as he opened scoring for UWF, putting a goal on the board against Montevallo in their 2-1 victory, and another opening goal against the #11 ranked AUM where he got the scoring started. Aegisson most recently recorded the game-winning assist in the 2-1 victory over the UAH Chargers in the final game of the regular season. Aegisson and the back line have kept their opponents to only 17 goals allowed to the Argos 34.Ā 

Caue Novaes
Caue Novaes, the captain of the 2024 Argonaut squad, has helped lead the Argo midfield to attack dominance and strong defense for the 2024 season. Novaes has started and played in 13 of the 14 matches for the Argos, only dropping one match due to injury. During those matches, Novaes has logged 1085 minutes with eight 90-minute matches recorded. The senior captain averages 83 minutes a match and is one of the most logged players on the team. Novaes has recorded two assists on the season, the first one coming in a 5-3 dominating win over Saint Leo and the second one coming with the game-winning assist against Montevallo to Keegan Ancelin. Novaes has recorded 16 shots with six on goal for the 2024 season and has been a key part of the Argo's 35 goals, and only 18 against for the 2024 season. Novaes has recorded at least one shot a game during the 2024 season. Novaes leads the team with his vocals, being a talker to his teammates out on the field for his team.Ā 

Marcus Pereira
Marcus Pereira has been a key source to the Argo midfield this season. Pereira has started in 11 matches for the Argos, playing in 12 of them. Pereira has logged 869 minutes, averaging 72 minutes in the middle for the Argos. During his time on the pitch, Pereira has scored three goals and tallied one assist for the Argos, earning seven points on the season. Pereira has logged at least one shot every game with a total of 24 shots on the season, with 11 on goal, a 0.458 SOG % for the midfielder. Pereira's first goal came against the dominating win over Misssippi College, where Pereira scored the tying goal for the Argos to even the score at 2-2 before the Argos took off with their three more goals. Pereira's second goal came from a 1-1 draw against Christain Brothers, where the Brazil native put the ball into the back of the net early. Pereira's third goal came as the senior converted his penalty kick and put the Argos up 1-0 against the Chargers, helping result in the 2-1 victory. Pereira's assist came from the 5-3 over Saint Leo, as Pereira had the game-winning assist from the third goal scored by the Argos. Pereira has dominated the middle of the field, helping the Argos attack with their 35 goals while also helping contribute to only 17 goals against.Ā 

Jaime Guillen
Jaime Guillen, a key piece of the UWF midfield, has been great in the 2024 season. Guillen has started and played in all 14 matches for the Argos, logging 1062 minutes on the season, averaging 76 minutes a game for the Argos. Guillen has registered five goals and two assists, giving him 12 points for the season. Along with this, Guillen has registered 35 shots with 19 on goal, giving him a 0.543 SOG %. Guillen's first goal came early in the season as the senior scored in the 5-3 win over Saint Leo. Just two games later, Guillen had an outstanding game, scoring a hat trick against Mississippi College, helping the Argos come back from a 2-1 deficit to win 5-3. In this match, Guillen scored with his head, his right foot, and his left foot. Guillen's most recent goal was the game-winner, a late PK conversion against West Alabama, and the senior converted the late PK to help the Argos defeat the Tigers 2-1. Guillen's first assist of the season came from a goal scored in the 6-1 victory over Trevecca, and he also helped Aegisson get the Argos started as he assisted the goal against the #11 Warhawks. Guillen has logged at least one shot per game, averaging 2.5 shots per game. Guillen has helped the Argos lead with 35 goals on the season and has also helped defend by only allowing 18 goals.Ā
