VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of West Florida women's basketball team tabbed another conference win over Valdosta State on Sunday afternoon at The Complex in Valdosta, Ga.
Rylie Stephens led the Argos with 13 points and was second with seven rebounds.
Bella Stone added 12 points to the total and went 2-of-3 from behind the arc.
The first quarter ended with UWF up by only three points after the Lady Blazers sunk a three-pointer with one second left on the clock. The second quarter was filled with plenty of close play, multiple lead changes and tied points. West Florida was up by one with three minutes left in the half,
Remi Langmaid made a shot from beyond the arc to increase their lead to four heading into the locker room.
West Florida held a strong seven point lead heading into the final quarter of the game. The Lady Blazers tied it up at 59-59 with 4:43 left in the game. A good three-pointer from
Haidyn Pitsch, followed by a layup from
Delaney Trushel pushed the Argos back into the lead.
Valdosta State made a push at the end but fell short and the Argos walked away victorious at 64-62.
West Florida outshot Valdosta State in every quarter except the final one, shooting at 38-percent from the field.
UWF was able to convert 19 points off turnovers from VSU and 11 on fast breaks. Valdosta State posted 42 points in the paint compared to 26 for West Florida.
The Lady Blazers were led offensively by Erin Whalen and Aryana Hicks with 15 points each.
The Argos will return to action at home on December 19 against Lee University with our Toy Drive game. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
