Kupstas leads Argos with 13 points

BOX SCORE

PENSACOLA, Fla. –
Tautvydas Kupstas and Rodney Bryant combined for 25 points, but it was not enough as the UWF Men's Basketball Team fell to Christian Brothers, 88-74, on Saturday afternoon at the UWF Field House.

West Florida falls to 6-16 and 4-14 in Gulf South Conference action while CBU moves to 13-8 and 11-7 in league play.

UWF shot the ball well, with a mark of 46 percent, but committed 13 turnovers leading to 20 points for the Buccaneers.  Kupstas led the way with 13 points on 5-10 shooting, while Bryant added 12 points and two assists.  Sterling White III added a team-high six assists with Le'Tarion White chipping in double-digits in scoring as well.

"CBU jumped on us from the start and we dug ourselves a hole", said UWF Head Coach Justin Mann.  "We fought back and got it tight, right before the half.  We missed a good look that could have carried the momentum into the second half."

The Bucs got out to a 15-2 start, with that lead eventually ballooning to 30-10 with 10:12 remaining in the first period.  After being down by 20 with just under nine minutes left in the half, UWF scored 21 points in the final 8:14 to pull within 12, heading to the break.

UWF would cut the deficit to ten at two different points early in the second frame, before a 15-2 run by CBU extended the lead to 23 with 12:38 to go.  West Florida would not get the deficit under 20 points until the 2:44 mark of the second frame, while Jailen Anderson converted late free-throws to seal the game for the visitors.

Anderson led all scorers with 26 points, while Christian Jones recorded a triple-double with 21 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds as the Bucs shot 55 percent from the floor and made 17 free-throws.

"Credit to the guys in the final five minutes that kept fighting and playing hard", continued Mann.  "We have a quick turnaround as we get to play at home on Monday.  Go Argos!"

UWF returns to the court on Monday, as they host Auburn Montgomery at the UWF Field House.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.
